Boston's WRKO-AM 680 to Debut The Grace Curley Show

I am NOT asking for anyone to be fired; I'm asking that the stations assume a responsibility to assure a quality on-air signal.

They ARE responsible. They have a very organized management structure. But mistakes happen for lots of reasons. If a spot doesn't run, the advertiser is owed an explanation. He paid for that spot, and he wants a refund. That's one example of responsibility. If a syndicated show has problems, and its the station's fault, the syndicator is within its rights to demand an explanation. So Howie's rep can demand to know why they audio in Howie's show sounds bad. There's another example of responsibility. Of course, you as a listener have no idea that these things are happening.

You have to consider how many hours are in a day. They're responsible for every minute. One of their talk show hosts says something that makes national news, and they have to answer for it. It might lead to that host getting fired. A huge storm passes through Boston and destroys the antenna. That has to be addressed. None of the things I've mentioned are among your complaints. But I'm just giving you some context.

I don't understand this notion that the Howie Carr/Grace Curley shows have bad audio. I've listened on various affiliates on streaming, AM, and FM, and haven't noticed anything different as compared to other shows. This is talk radio with telephone callers, not a quadraphonic remastering of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.

Interesting to see Curley's show picked up by a WHMP, a non-Howie affiliate. Howie mentioned yesterday that his show is now on a station in the southwest (New Mexico?). Should be interesting to see if they continue to pick up new affiliates with the shifting talk landscape.

Dare I say it? WBZ-AM had some really decent audio when it was still at 1170 SFR, running on legacy gear, no less. I believe that the CBS engineers/technicians had a certain pride in what their stations sounded like on-air. I noticed the change in quality in late August 2018 when 'BZ had to relocate. Even spoken word audio should sound like it has room to breathe, and not sound so bandwidth-restricted and compressed ("squeezed") by modern studio gear and codecs and IP STLs.

Had the afternoon off and ended up listening to a few hours of her show this afternoon on a couple of different affiliates. Show is continuing to get better and held my attention.

Perhaps we can start calling anti-Grace people "Gracists?"

I listened to her for the first time today (finally back home!) and I found her tin foil hat rantings on Covid to be boring.

But then again we didn't have to deal with the BS Boston and MA is dealing with down in FLA

Holy smokes! Howie admitted out loud, on air, that if he doesn't send the 'mailroom manager' flowers for Mother's Day, he'll be 'paying for it for a week'. 'Submit' doesn't listen to his show? If she does, he'll be 'paying for it' for a hell of a lot longer than a week. Anyone remember years ago when she called into his show and just tore him apart, knowing full well she was on the air?? Holy smokes. It was embarrassing.

I heard that, and wasn't sure if it was a "bit" she was doing on air for some drama. (i.e...was it all setup and pre-planned.)

It didn't sound like it was a "bit". He took calls for one or two segments afterwards and you could hear in his voice he was embarrassed. The callers were horrified by what they had just heard and made no bones about telling him who wears the pants in his house and pretty much said they didn't want to be in his shoes when he got home. "Sandy" used to call 'submit' 'the lovely Mrs. Carr', i remember thinking after hearing 'submit' live on air, that perhaps that comment from "Sandy" might have been sarcasm.

It sounded like a bit to me....sitting in the host chair, she was only on, because he let her on. He could have stopped it at anytime.

I think it's a running joke that his wife calls the shots...and bosses him around. His wife is very involved in his career, and I believe she would not embarrass him, and was good natured-ly playing along, because she knows it makes good radio. ;-)

Just my $0.02

I've only met her once, but she was very friendly. I think she does call a lot of the shots, and, like Howie, has no problem adding flavor to an ad read if it brings in the bucks (such as the stuff Howie has been saying about 1-800-Flowers).

She also was the one who hired Grace, which I think has worked out really well for all involved (unless you're a cold-blooded Gracist).

My wife is 1/2 Sicilian, so I readily admit she calls 1/2 of the shots, otherwise 1/2 of my body would end up in a trunk somewhere...

I listened to WRKO TOH @noon, apparently the O'Reilly thing that used to run something like 18 minutes has been cut way back, to the length of the local news (6 minutes?) that is the norm the rest of the day so that WRKO can join the Grace Show at the start of the feed to all her affiliates.

Looks like they shifted the full O'Reilly segment to 7 PM.

Did quick search; various stations run O'Reilly at different times. One does 11:45 am to noon. Late afternoon, early evening...WRKO indeed has had to delay Grace's show but now as has been said they do a quick version of O'Reilly Update at noon.
Speaking of noon, the "who will replace Rush"
situation...here in Boston iHeart has Rush at noon on WXKS and may simply carry Rush's Premiere successor--whomever that may be. Cumulus
stations are to launch Dan Bongino.A couple New England stations went to Curley. Local
hosts in Buffalo I think...and in Burlington
VT WVMT picked up Fox News Talk's
Fox Across America, hosted by comedian
Jimmy Failla in what had been Rush's slot.

It had been said Premiere would wait at least 90 days after Rush's death to announce a successor for the slot. He passed on Feb 17.

I read somewhere on this board that the O'Reilly news now airs live just before 10am in the morning during GOONer's show. The 7pm segment you speak of on RKO is what airs just before the prerecorded Jesse Kelly show which airs live from Texas at 10am and is replayed on RKO starting at 7pm!

Wait: Jesse Kelly's show is breakfast reheated and served for dinner? I never knew, but, then again, I never bothered to tune in. Yeah, way to go to earn points for "live, local" talk.
