Boston's WRKO-AM 680 to Debut The Grace Curley Show

I would much rather have a live and local host focusing on local issues.

But ask anyone who performs for a living, and they will tell you the goal is to reach more people. No matter how big he is in Boston, he's not going to get any bigger. The only way to demonstrate he's still growing and reaching more fans is to add more stations. He might do what Howie did and stay regional. That was he can still cover some local issues. But if you're on-air talent, and you're talented, you want to grow the audience. Obviously it's a big issue with him.

Sir. I have never worked in radio.
His ratings are higher than WRKO has experienced in many years

These two statements would appear to be in conflict. Unless you work in radio, you wouldn't know what Kuhner's ratings are, since the only ratings I have ever seen posted (here) are broad station ratings and not broken down by show and demographics within.

Sir. I have never worked in radio. I do not understand why you would reduce your credibility with such an incorrect assertion. I am also not naive. Second incorrect assertion. Jeff is an entertainer. That is what he gets paid for. You appear to be a regular listener so he is successful getting you to listen. His ratings are higher than WRKO has experienced in many years, again outside of what advertisers look for but the station is targeting that audience. Why would you want to get rid of a great live and local talk show host for one that is national? Why don’t you want him to continue to be successful?
You are correct that he is an entertainer which is fine however he identifies himself as a journalist and historian. A propagandist is what he really is. He wouldn't bother me so much if he didn't lie so often and let the incredible amount of disinformation that he callers bring to the show each and everyday go unchallenged. He has made little effort to learn about state and local politics yet he positions himself as an expert.

Can you please share with us the incredible ratings that his show brings in. Where does he rank with adults 25 to 54 for example?

On many occasions over the past few months when I've listened to Kuhner I found what he said to not be a lie, but perhaps a misstatement or half-truth. Honestly I do not know if he's lying purposely to goad more ignorant callers into a frenzy by tossing them red meat, or he's just ignorant of the facts he's purporting to hold himself out as an expert on.

If you asked me to point to a specific example, I cannot recall one. But I do recall it happening enough times over the past few months that I took notice of it.

IMO he does "conservatives" or "republicans" a disservice by allowing the lunatic fringe to peddle their conspiracy theories on the air, rather than sticking with more poignant political analysis and discussion. Perhaps the latter doesn't get listeners, though.

His lack of show prep probably contributes to some of the nonsense he spews and now that he doesn't have Rush to rely on for predictions etc. you'll really start to see how uninformed he can be...and...Howie is the man when it comes to State and local politics, kuhner wouldn't know where to begin!

Good points but I believe he makes stuff up as he goes along here are 3 examples.
1. He often claimed that while he was working at the Moonie Times in DC where he over saw all the White House and Congressional coverage he would often meet sources at a popular DC Restaurant in the afternoon. Kuhner claims that Ted Kennedy would always be alone at the same restaurant totally drunk complete with wine bottles strewn all over the table. By the time Kuhner got to Washington Ted Kennedy had married his second wife and had all but given up drinking. I find it hard to believe that Kennedy would be alone and drunk in the middle of the afternoon every time Kuhner happened to be at that restaurant. And the waiter never cleared the table.
2. Kuhner claims that he knows for a fact that Charlie Baker made a deal with the Democrats that Baker would not run candidates against Democratic State Reps and Senators and in return the Democrats would not run a strong candidate against Baker. The Democrats would never make such a deal considering the Republicans haven't been able to field competitive candidates for legislative races in almost 30 years.
3. During the Kevin Spacey Court hearings On Nantucket in 2019 Kuhner claimed his sources told him Ch. 5 management was not happy with Unruh's testimony and fired her. He even asked callers what they thought on Ch 5 firing Unruh. Unruh was never fired she announced on the air in 2016 that she had decided to leave the station.

Let's not forget......Trump's people listen to his show.....who in their right mind believes that? Who????
By Trump's people, does he mean listeners who voted for Trump?
Does Trump even know kuhner exists???
I don't recall reading that kuhner was on Trump's plane during the campaign like Howie was (there's pictures)
I don't recall kuhner opening up for Trump at any rally or townhall like Howie did
I don't recall reading that kuhner had Trump on his show like Howie did multiple times
I don't recall reading that kuhner had dinner with Trump at Mar a Lago like Howie has, multiple times, hell even that twit Grace has had dinner at Mar a Lago (thanks to Howie) with Trump present.

Come to think of it, I do not think I've heard a member of Trump's administration on Kooonah's show, ever.

Dear God, MAKE...IT...STOP......on howie's show, every 8 minutes there's a spot for air purifiers or heaters and every 10 minutes there's a spot with susan wornick...smh...phil took care of me....really, cuz I thought sam laing took care of you.....

I'll take Howie's sponsors over the "top Adele / Taylor Swift songs you've thumbed up" crap every 10 minutes like on the other station. Trust me, it's not my thumb. Or the incessant ads for the Innocence Project and Finding Richard Simmons. ENOUGH

RULE #1! DON'T LOSE THE MONEY! RULE #2! DON'T FORGET RULE #1!

Howie is advertising the Grace Curley Show in the industry trades. Mrs Kathy Carr the President of The Howie Carr Radio Network is handling syndication sales for the HCRN. Now that many stations have a decision to make from 12p-3p it will be interesting to see if any of Howie's other stations will take a chance on the new host who is described as having millennial energy and across-the-board charm.

And how's that for staying on topic :)

Sam wants to sell you an annuity. Phil and his wife Laureen want to prevent you from loosing all that money you have made when you go into a nursing home. Kelly Kelly's boys will sell you what ever you'll buy.

The Maine industrial gas and welding supply company has been advertising with Carr for years. Who knew there we so many welding supply decision makers listening to AM Talk Radio.

Kuhner makes that 2 hour drive from Wrentham to Danvers to have his teeth cleaned by Dr. Emma WOOO.

And finally would you rather go on a cruise with Dan Rae or Susan Wornick.?

I'm with you, Cap'n: those dumb iHeart music-based plugs on 'BZ or Talk 1200 are so-o-o-o out-of-place.

Would think iHeart stations will be forced to carry
Limbaugh's replacement (to be announced in 90 days or so). (1200 in Boston, sister station).Someone suggested Kuhner on the Free Republic board as Rush replacement.

He may do very well in Boston but nationwide
Jeff? Closest he got was fill ins awhile back for Savage and Levin. The fillins on Savage Nation may have been what attracted WRKO to sign him.
So far no affiliates for Kuhner though most
stations have their own AMDrive talk host
already, local or regional (iHR putting same host--Jim Polito-- in Worc/Springfield/Prov etc)

They are across New England, as are Mathews Brothers. Howie is able to attract both blue collar contractors and folks who can afford to build second homes, so there is a certain marketing sweet spot with his show.
