Both WWKBW radio and TV a shadow of their former selves

I know this is a radio board...but we talk local media as well...and WKBW used to be a big deal on the radio, so......

I have to say, after years of amateur-hour on Ch. 7's locally produced news shows, this evenings 6 o'clock broadcast takes the cake: one major technical screw up after another. Mikes off, wrong copy being read, storie's clearly out of order, fluctuating audio, miscues, etc. etc.

This TV station is worse than many small market outlets I've seen over the years. What gives? It's pathetic.

Amateur hour doesn't sound half bad after yesterday's made-up story, claiming a Buffalo police officer was beating a man.

An attempt at trying to show police brutality. The video was there, and that wasn't the case.

I was hoping that when WWKB changed to oldies in 2003 taht something good would've prevailed. Too bad I was wrong. :(

Channel 7 can and will get better under the new ownership of Scripps. There are a lot of young faces on all channels these days, but the screw-ups aren't the fault of the anchors or reporters, who unfortunately are the faces viewers see when and if something goes wrong. Channel 4 has had its share of technical glitches, too. Although most young anchors or reporters may look like your son or daughter after you reach a certain age, the era of Rich Kellman, and Irv, Tom and Rick has passed. TV belongs to the generation of Andy Parker, Scott Levin and Melissa Holmes.

Oh, you mean the video of the BPD cop repeatedly smacking a guy on the ground with his nightstick? The same guy on the ground who was lying on his back holding his hands up to fend off those blows? The guy on the ground who wasn't even charged with anything because he wasn't really doing anything illegal? That non-brutality incident? Ok.

Yes, nothing to see here folks. Move along.

No, I meant the one where the cop slammed the guy on the car, the guy slid off the car, and the cop smacked him, twice, with a baton.

Which is the purpose of the baton. A non-deadly weapon.

Nice try though, by you and 7. And it only took 15 days to create.

My favorite was the juicy info, more like middle school gossip, that draws you and other Ch. 7 viewers in that is unrelated to the incident, but still reported by Ch 7:
"We've also discovered from two police sources, Corey Krug is a relative of Officer Raymond Krug. Raymond Krug was charged with federal civil rights violations stemming back to a 2009 arrest."

Nice try by me? LOL

If you believe that officer was justified in doing what he did, you belong in one of those former soviet block countries.

You have all kinds of confused/bitter going on.

Another TV comment/question for those who are in-the-know on this stuff:

Why does WBBZ's locally produced programming have such an amateurish/public access kind of look to it, while the locally produced programming on channels 2, 4 and 7 look far more big league?

Technically speaking, what makes the difference? Is it better lighting? Better cameras? And how do they solve that horrible audio problem (they sound like they're recording in an airplane hanger)?

The local programming on WBBZ is embarrassing. They constantly preempt the
ME TV programs with infomercials and bad local content.
Of course they need revenue to operate, but they would be better off running the
ME TV programs. Those shows probably get much better ratings than any of
The local content anyway...

First of all, it's not about ratings for WBBZ, it's about sponsors and revenue. They ain't gonna make it based on raw numbers because the audience they get is largely upper demo. The ME TV programs don't pay to be on the air. Infomercials do. As far as the local production is concerned, they run on a shoestring in a facility designed for shopping, not TV. It's not a static news set like other locals. It's not that far from AM Buffalo's production values. It's a lot more electronic than you might be aware due to space and cost limitations. I give them credit for trying to put something live and local - or at least recorded and local - on the air. Yes, the audio needs help, and the lighting could be better, but it's a start.

I grew up listening to KB in the early 60s. It was the greatest . Sorry the comeback failed in the early to mid 2000s. Oldies radio is just not a moneymaker anymore.

I almost never listen anymore that it's sports, for the most part. There are two, maybe three talk shows left from when it was liberal talk.
