Bradley Jay Has Got To Be The Worst Host On The Planet - WBZ Fill In

Anyone catch the show last night/this morning? Thank the Good Lord in the Heavens above that Bradley Jay is usually BZ's last choice? for a fill-in host when Steve is away. Apparently "Open Topic" doesn't mean what I thought it does. I have never heard a more unrefined radio guy. And he has been in the business for how many years? His "silly" little un-researched discussions make for just about the stupidest talk radio on the dial. I even had to tune over to the UFO guy for awhile... :D

I understand that each broadcaster has their own style, but I'm not sure you could even classify this guys' feeble attempt at a radio show as anything more than a 5 hr. Verbal Cesspool. If he would ever become a permanent fixture on WBZ....Well, I shudder to even think about it. ::)

Funny how people were calling in off the air to voice their opinion of how bad it was!
I'll take 5 hrs. of Steve's political rants any day of the week over this! ;D

(snip)

while i try to not cast a negative thought towards any one particular broadcaster, i will admit that this morning (oh-dark-thirty) i found out more about the potential "giants" of Nevada, whose skeletal remains are now seemingly no where to be found at either of two museums where said remains once were housed; that they apparently had red hair and most likely were early viking explorers; that there is an ancient Roman ship off the coast of South America...

i, too, was driven to "the UFO guy" this morning.

Steve was observing the most holy of days on his secular calendar: Fenway's Opening Day.

;D ;D ;D

I must admit, I was an Art Bell fan in his earlier days, I did find his shows interesting/entertaining, although towards the end they kinda went somewhat silly... :-[

I really thought about it a couple of times before posting this thread, but I felt it just had to be said. I can listen to just about anything at all, but the "unprofessionalism" that BZ broadcasted this morning & every time he fills in for that matter, was just too much for me to take, & apparently other regular listeners as well.

Steve was observing the most holy of days on his secular calendar: Fenway's Opening Day.
I understand completely! Can't blame hime for that! Hope he had a "Most Excellent" time!!! ;D

For Katzradio...along with Erie_Lakawanna:

Since there is such a great emphasis on multi-tasking at single and corporately-owned radio stations these days...it's entirely possible that Bradley Jay appears on the same station as a bogus news source...and triples as "the bathroom custodian" at night? ???

Definitely a great way for any broadcast facility to recoop their investment in non-talented air personalities! ::)

I work nights and want something interesting when I drive home so that's one reason I got a sat. radio

Well, if they start doing that to Steve, I know he'll be out the door in a flash! To quote him;

"Hey, Hey, I'm not cleaning the stinkin' bathroom, get your own damn janitor!" ;D ;D

@racoonradio - I have always said I would never pay for radio, but there may come a time that I have to... :-\
Sat. is looking better & better all the time...

Hey racoonradio,

I wanted to ask you; You mean you have Sat. radio, & the only thing on to listen to was UFO stuff?!? Surely you had some better choices than that! ;D

Bradley J did a competant job. It's a very long shift and not hearing it all, I don't know how much he varied from the comments on General P's feelings on the state of the war. He also mentioned the RS stuff was overkill and I'd agree with that: play ball.

No, no, you misunderstood me: I bought the sat radio _because_ I didn't want to be subjected to the UFO
stuff! I listen to so much other stuff on it. (For the record, it does carry Coast to Coast too, but I was
listening to the country and classsic country stations; the comedy stations; some talk shows;
sports stuff like MLB, some of the "decades" stations, and so on!)

Maybe it's just the radio geek side of me, but when I get bored with WBZ at night I scan the dial to find distant stations. I love listening to anything 1000 miles away. I can't get some of the stations I used to get due to IBOC hash, but it kills time. Also DXing in the expanded band (1610 t0 1720) can be fun. I remember listening to the tests of the expanded band years ago.

Try it you'll like it!

Bradley doesn't really drive me up a wall that much. What does drive me up a wall is when Jordan has on psychics and other fortune tellers. I loved Norm Nathan but he used to have those charlatans on too.

Every now and then, I will try to pick up WBBM in Chicago, but where I live I generally get either interference or fully 78 Kix Country out of Canada instead!

No way, you're thinking of Tiger Bob, and others. Norm was reality-based, no nonsense all the way. I can even remember two who phoned in and NN to set something up but Norm as much as said don't wait for the call, it ain't coming.

But I agree with you they are terrible though I'm sure listeners like it. I remember The Dean used to have his own guy(Dr. somebody?) with this classic voice and you were supposed to ask the question "can you tell me something about myself."

Yeah, I can get the psychics thing on George Noory ::) (Who?) Don't need it on WBZ, although I know Jordan has them on sometimes, & if I'm not mistaken, Larry Glick used to do shows like that?

Thank goodness Steve doesn't go in for that phony baloney stuff. It doesn't even make for good entertainment, IMHO. Lord help the ones who actually believe it! :eek:

I do this also. I love listening to 1010WINS or seeing what ballgame I can get.

That ship has sailed. There was a time when you could get different programming on practically any clear-ch 50k at night. That's farr from the case now. WLS/89,WHAS/84,WJR/76,WWVA/1170 and others mostly have Con. syndi talk.

But I do check in with Toronto 740, WGN 720.

Yeah, isn't 740 the one that has the old time radio programming on around 11:00 pm? I catch that frequently & enjoy it.

As for 720, I love the Steve and Johnnie show thru the week, & on the weekends Brian Noonan is usually good to listen to - funny guy!

Just had to resurrect this thread again... B Jay filled in again last night/this morning & I believe will also be warming the chair for the remainder of the week. He was true to form; Boring, un-insightful, closed minded, & more that I can't think of at this early hour. ;D As mentioned previously, I know the whole idea behind BZ's thought process is to "Keep the needle moving", but come on.

In a market the size of Boston, this is the best they can do for fill in? Of course, it is clearly not a matter of "best", but probably more along the lines of "least expensive". It is interesting though; since a large portion of WBZ's audience is the Senior citizen age group, you would think mgmt. would want to put someone at the helm that would be more pleasing for them to listen to, instead of rant, rave, yell, disagree, make silly points & bring up useless, nonsensical arguments.

But I digress... ::)

I saw this thread go by the first time, but now I have to respond. I think Bradley Jay is perfectly acceptable as an overnight fill in host and more. But "the worst host on the planet?" ARE YOU KIDDING?

He's not even close to being the worst host on the planet - hell, he's not even the worst host in Boston! Have you heard Michelle Mcphee? Anyone who rates her above "unlistenable" needs to have their hearing checked. Ditto for Michael Graham and Marjorie Eagan.

Having worked overnights at least 3 times during my radio career...maybe I could apply for the "KEEP THE CHAIR WARM WHILE THE REGULAR HOST IS ON VACATION" position?

There are definitely one or two talk topics that aren't currently be addressed in the Boston market. Ironically, neither one of these will EVER go out of style...or become outdated?

And no...I'm not going to give a wanna be PD a clue as to what they are? But believe me...both subjects are instant audience grabbers! ;)
