In response I can't say that this latest personnel shake-up at CNN comes as a surprise. Remember back a few years ago when the network jettisoned a number of anchors and reporters who started when the network went on the air back in the 1980s in order to afford Larry King and Connie Chung?

What does surprise me is that Imus is doing so well in the morning. Don't get me wrong, I spent over 30 years in radio and find it ironic and amusing that a radio show is the morning lead-in for an all news cable TV network. Good for Imus and company.

Kiran is a great hire for CNN

She was one of the reasons I've watched Fox and Friends on weekends for the past several years. Sharp, quick, witty, a great foil for the two doofuses alongside her, and easy to look at too. I'm going to miss her. With her there no one will notice how big a stiff John Roberts is.

How well Imus does speaks as much as to how BAD most of the morning cable shows are that a RADIO show broadcast on TV gets the share it does.

"Today" probably isn't worried though. They have ...what...six MILIION viewers?

All said, congrats to Imus. At least he is entertaining.

Kiran Chetry and John Roberts will debut as the new co-anchors of CNN's flagship morning program American Morning on Monday, April 16, it was announced today by Jon Klein, president of CNN/U.S. Soledad O’Brien and Miles O’Brien will remain at the network as featured special correspondents. American Morning airs on CNN/U.S. each weekday from 6 a.m. to 9 am (ET).

CNN’s Soledad O’Brien has been named anchor and special correspondent effective immediately, it was announced today by CNN/U.S. President Jon Klein. She will join CNN: Special Investigations Unit, reporting in-depth on the most significant stories across the country and around the world. O’Brien will anchor and report hour-long CNN: Special Investigations Unit specials throughout the year and will file special reports on important ongoing and breaking news stories across all major CNN programs.

The CNN morning team was one of the worst I have ever seen. The O'Brien's just did not work as a team or separtely.

Imus works because the show is so different and he makes no attempt to be nice and "fluffy". Although a very generous individual off the air who is loyal to those who put up with him "back in the day" he makes no attempt to apper that way when on the air. Thus, his grumpy personality makes for a viewer draw. He is just as grumpy in the morning as we are!

Imus' uptick may also be of the same vein as Keith Olbermann's. Imus has become a leading critic of the administration's Iraq policy and treatment of veterans etc. While he skews conservative on other issues, there does appear to be a growing audience for shows that are the polar opposite of what Fox is putting out.

CNN in the morning has never had the laid back feel FNC (or even Imus) has.... It's a morning show...not a hard-core-stick-to-the-headlines 6pm newscast

Ever since Paul Zahn and Bill Hemmer stopped being a team the show has gone down hill. CNN really should have made some effort to keep Hemmer.

CNN was originally built around the concept that the "STAR" of the news is the news. Now they are totally into creating personalities. Witness "Anderson Cooper 360." Now apparently CNN is so desperate for ratings they changed it to AC360 (so it was advertised when I last saw it) because the "COOL" people use initals.

I do miss the days when people tuned in news shows for the news, not to see some anchor mugging for the camera be it CNN or Fox or whatever

I usually listen to American Morning on XM Radio Channel 122. I've always enjoyed it. Maybe it would be different if I was watching it though. I hate to see them go, but that's the way it is.
