CBS Radio statement:
. NBC Statement:The suspension is effective for the radio broadcast as well:
"Due to the events of the past week, CBS Radio will suspend Don Imus and the broadcast of his show for a period of two weeks, effective Monday, April 16," CBS announced tonight. "The program will continue to broadcast this week due to WFAN's previously scheduled on-air charity fundraiser on Thursday, April 12 and Friday, April 13."

great point.Sharpton and Jackson have both had their racial slurs.Hell people just walk around looking for anything that may offend them.the good ole boys at Fox are really on the attack against MSNBC.Imus was just being humurous when he made the remark,NEVER for a minute meant for it to offend anyone.Plus he will love the 2 weeks off.Might watch a few Rutgers ladies basketball games.

Imus GREATLY upset her and the team. Imus has a PATTERN of racist, hateful comments against minorities and women. CBS and GE need to stop profiting from it. Fox News Channel and every other cable, broadcast and print organization along with bloggers have covered this today so your Fox comment is also out of line.

How come treasonist people like Rosie O'Donnell can continue to banter the airwaves with her anti-American rantings, and nothing is done? (Much talk about her, no real action).
I am not saying Imus was right. It was a little out of context, and probably wrong. America has heard a lot worse, and the sun still continues to shine.
It is individuals like Rev. Sharpton who just add fuel to the fire. I do not know who (and why) gave Mr. Sharpton the ability to speak for the entire race of African Americans in our Country.

Imus handled the ENTIRE matter today as BADLY as could be. He should have shut up, hired spin doctors, publicists and lawyers to save his career. Instead, he practiced the WORST foot-in-mouth disease I've EVER seen. He's done himself in. And he won't recover from this. He can't ever be his Archie Bunker self again. And after watching the entire Al Sharpton interview, he really is Archie Bunker, in real life.
Tucker Carlson on MSNBC summed it up best "He's an old guy trying to save his job"...

Any licenses by either company are completely safe. There have been far worse things broadcast in recent times and nobody has had anything close to a successful challenge. That won't stop people from making noise, but that's all it is.
Advertiser boycotts? Maybe. I think most non-militants take this for what it is; a relatively minor mistake that has been blown a few dozen orders of magnitude out of proportion. He made a mistake, he apologized for it, he's getting punished for it (though I wonder if he was scheduled to be off for any of that time already), now it's time to move on.

Tell that to CBS and what it cost them for Janet. This will cost MUCH, MUCH more.
This is no minor mistake. LOOK at the websites tonight and news stories being published for the morning papers. Even The Drudge Report has devoted the top 7 stories to Imus. THIS IS A HUGE STORY.
It is not your call to say when to move on. Only those that have been harmed by this can say that.
Imus MUST be fired.

It's very amusing to see so many people try to change the subject rather than confront the issue at hand. This event is not about Sharpton, Jackson, Rosie, or anyone other than Imus. He made an incredibly hateful racist remark, and to make it worse, it was directed at some young women who did nothing other than come close to winning a national basketball title. One overlooked aspect of this story is that all the attention to Imus has deprived these women of a deserved chance to bask in a favorable media spotlight. And the blame for that deprivation rests not with the media--but rather with the I-man.
This story has not "been blown up out of all proportion". Race relations are at the center of all this, and everyone I know who says it's being blown out of proportion is also willing to bend my ear talking about it.
A few other things while I'm on a roll:
-Yes, Al Sharpton does have some baggage to answer for--namely his shameful conduct in the aftermath of the Tawana Brawley incident. But there is also a key difference between Sharpton and Imus--Sharpton has grown up and learned to think before opening his mouth as he has aged. We can't say the same thing about the I-man.
-Rosie O' Donnell is not a "treasonist". One big difference between the U-S and many Islamic nations is the right to criticise our government. If you can't understand this, Stuart, it is you who are the treasonist.
-No one gave Al Sharpton the right to speak for all African-Americans, and I have yet to hear one person who suggests that he does, outside of well...Stuart. So far as I know, no one kidnapped Imus and took him to Sharpton's studio--he made that decision on his own.

Boston Has Its Own Talk Show Bigot - JAY SEVERIN
Don't think you are alone. Boston has its own racist pig, named Jay Severin, who attacks our new Governor, Deval Patrick, because he is an African - American.
By the way, Governor Patrick is a graduate of Milton Academy, Harvard College and Harvard Law School. He is a bright and articulate individual but Jay Severin hates the Governor's politics. Governor Patrick is a Democrat and Severin is a libertarian Republicrat. So, Severin [ Ne. Severino] goes to race to attack Deval Patrick.
Sad but true that Greater Media which owns the station he is on, WTKK-FM 96.9 will do nothing.

CBS Radio smacks of guilt and MSNBC is an accomplice in all of this.
If the two coroptaions viewed his comments as racist and really cared they would have suspended him the day or day after it happened. But because of the Al Sharpton broadcast and extended media coverage, including Imus continuing to talk about it, it's clear they can't stand the heat.

If it is so hysterical, then why did Imus go to Sharpton to get "cleansed" of his sins to the black community? IMUS is the one who has made ALL THE WRONG MOVES. There is no way to deflect this off of Imus. FIRE HIM.

Imus has a NATIONAL platform. And top politicians, journalists and newsmakers routinely go to his show. He has a higher ethical standard that he must practice (than say a Stern type show) if he wants to have this kind of a morning show. And he hasn't been and can't. He has a pattern of being a racist and degrading minorities and women. He must go. And go now. He should have been FIRED on Wednesday of last week. He must go.
