Brett Shipp of WFAA will leave TV for congress

Prior to Shipp running for congress he worked at WFAA-TV for 22 years and won some awards in investigative journalism along the way.

Shipp will run as a Democrat in the hope to unseat Republican Congressman Pete Sessions in Texas’ 32nd District, which was created after the 2000 census gave Texas two more seats. It’s the area north and east of Dallas

The veteran reporter has worked that the Tegna-owned ABC affiliate for over 22 years. He has won a number of journalism awards including three Peabodys.

“We are grateful for the many contributions Brett has made to WFAA and the field of journalism,” said Executive News Director Carolyn Mungo in a statement.

He will announce his run today. Shipp’s last day at WFAA was Tuesday.
