Brian Williams Says He’s Leaving NBC News At End Of Year

NEW YORK (AP) — Brian Williams, who remade his career as an MSNBC host after losing his job as NBC “Nightly News” anchor for making false claims about a wartime story, is leaving the network after 28 years.

Williams said in a note to colleagues that “following much reflection,” he had decided to exit when his contract ends in December.

“This is the end of a chapter and the beginning of another,” Williams wrote. “There are many things I want to do, and I’ll pop up again somewhere.”

For their sake, I hope not.

Once a journalist compromises his/her integrity, that should be career-ending. He should have been fired by NBC rather than being transferred to cable (even a cable network not exactly known for objectivity).

His job was to be accurate, and he failed. He shouldn't be hired as a weekend anchor in Glendive MT, let alone by another network.

Brian Williams is rumored to be in talks to head for ABC News or CNN. Note this is proposed for now.
I seriously hope not. Once it was proven that he'd stretched the truth, lied and in at least one case, completely fabricated stories about places he'd supposedly been, things he'd done, etc. he lost any and all credibility as a journalist and newsman. it also sets up any network who hires him in the future for very easy attacks from the right. All they need to say is "XYZ network spits out the same lies as the rest of the mainstream media. Don't believe us? They hired Brian Williams, the biggest fabricator of them all....Roll the tape."

Bit of an overstatement. He never lied about the news. Just exaggerated his resume. And it was a long time ago. He's paid his dues and hasn't repeated his mistakes.

We have an entire network telling their viewers the election was a fraud. They hold others to a purity test that they can't pass.

He would be perfect for Fox News!

And while there may be a hardcore group of insufferable “but he exaggerated” types, the bigger picture suggests people are far less rigid.
