BRING BACK CHRISTMAS MUSIC ON WBZ NEWSRADIO 1030!

I propose that WBZ Newsradio 1030 end their gnawing version of Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve and go Christmas music for 28 hours from Monday Christmas Eve at 8 p.m. until Tuesday Christmas Night at 12 Midnight. It can be the best Christmas gift that they can give their listeners. Maybe they can extend it until 5 a.m. on Wednesday December 26th. What do you say?

Seriously?

Every other station is playing the Christmas music, most of them on FM. News still does happen on holidays, and since they're the only all news station in Boston, how's about they stick to news!!

I have no problem with A Christmas Carol, but do they really need to play the same dumb songs that have been spinning on the FM stations for a month and a half?

When they used to do this they had a bit more varied playlist than a lot of stations. They mixed in stuff - instrumentals (maybe by the Boston Pops or Philharmonic?) that you don't find elsewhere. If they did it the way they used to it might be refreshing.

They could still do top and bottom of the hour news updates and keep the traffic/weather as normal during the day.

They can't play the music because of licensing, or at least that is what LeVeille & others have always stated.

'BZ dropped their music licensing years ago...

That may explain why WRKO stopped doing their occasional holiday 60s-music shows (on Mem.
Day, July 4th), a kind of throwback to the Big 68. (WABC still does oldies on Sat nights though
don't they?)

Fybush, 1996:
"Boston-area radio listeners found quite a surprise on Independence Day when they tuned into talk-formatted WRKO (680). The American Radio Systems flagship gave the talk hosts a couple of days off...and in their stead is a revived version of "the Big 68," the top-40 legend that was WRKO from 1967 until 1980. The station did not try to bring back the legendary 'RKO jocks, instead using the current talk hosts (Pat Whitley & Marjorie Clapprood, Jerry Williams, Howie Carr, and the "Two Chicks," Leslie Gold and Laurie Kramer) to introduce what's being billed as the "Top 96 of 1968." A few of the old Drake jingles have been resurrected

BZ did the Christmas music for years. If I recall Dave Maynard did most of the voicetracking and it allowed BZ to operate with just one master control tech and one newsman and everybody else could be with their families.

What always has bemused me is how by December 26th there is NO holiday music even though the 12 days of Christmas run until January 6th.

Please do not bring Christmas music on WBZ Newsradio 1030. If I want to listen to Christmas music, I can tune into an FM station that airs Christmas music for weeks leading up to the holiday. I can't stand Christmas music so I actually listen to WBZ most of the day when and if I am in the car, because they are airing something other than Christmas music.
