BRW tweet: JT the Brick has new Boston signal lined up

http://twitter.com/bostonradio

>>So @JTTheBrick signed off WEEI for the final time this morning. He said he already has a new Boston signal to carry him.

@bostonradio (Boston Radio Watch) tweeted the JT The Brick bid farewell to his WEEI listeners but said he had a new home for his show lined up in Boston (I guess JT is off tonight so last night was his 850 swan song). BRW
mentioned 3 possibilities...which one?

--890: Dark since mid Sept. but could they go back on with Fox Sports Radio 24/7? At least it would have something for them to run (poss. sale?)

--98.5: Would they jettison Sporting News Radio so soon? Or poss. pick up just a show or two, like JT?

--1510: For the night and overnight hours, weekends too. SNR has 98.5 nights weekends so 1510 could
pick up Fox and cast aside SNR

Others:
--Highly remote but there is a connection between Clear Channel and Premiere, which produces and
syndicates Fox Sports. I highly doubt they would dump Spanish at 1200 (Rumba) and 1430 (Mia). Do they
think enough people would want FSR instead?

--If WEEI did do the ESPN to 850, WEEI to FM move conceivably the FM could run Fox Sports overnight and have ESPN on the AM but that would mean JT & friends wouldn't be leaving WEEI after all.

I would think 1510 and 890 are the most likely possibilities

I'm only guessing--just like you are, but 1510 sounds the most likely to me. Would Fox Sports (isn't it part of CCU?) pay for the Boston avails? If yes, the pieces seem to kinda fit togehter. I don't think WWZN would take the program if they were not getting paid to carry it. So if whoever it is is not getting paid, I'd say that whoever it is is not WWZN.

>>Would Fox Sports (isn't it part of CCU?) pay for the Boston avails?

Paul W. just brought that up on b-r-i...namely that Davidson's deal is "you pay, we play"

http://premiereradio.com/shows/view/Fox_Sports.html

Fox Sports is indeed produced and/or syndicated by Premiere (Rush/Beck/R. Rhodes/Coast to Coast/
Hannity/country's "After Midnight" etc.)

It could well be 1510; or even 890 should they decide to turn on again (I don't know if they're selling but if
it's true that an on-air operation is easier to sell than a dark one, then...) I guess what happened in Sept.
was that ESPN pulled affiliation from 890/1400 (wanting to go to a stronger station plus WEEI probably
wanted to re-affiliate, too) and that meant the local sports shows they ran had to go, too (what else
could they run when those shows weren't on...? plus probably a lack of money in general)

What I find disappointing is that neither WBZ-FM nor WEEI appear to be even considering a locally originated overnight sports show.

J.T. "The Brick"?......Just my opinion, but: BLECH ! ! !

I think at least one station, WEEI or WBZ FM would be able justify having a local host for overnights. WFAN in NY is local during the overnight hours.

But New York City has more than ten times the populstion of Boston and the New York market has at least six times the population of the Boston market.

An local overnight show would be brutal. It's cost prohibitive. I've tuned in for ESPN early morning programing: what's the holdup? And what ever happened to the former overnight guy before JT, "Sports Pig"?

I can't see WBZ-FM going live overnight, especially being under the same roof as WBZ-AM which is one of the few stations that actually IS live overnight. Granted, WBZ-FM is the EAS primary, so they need to have someone in-studio 24/7 anyway, right?

Yet WEEI has it's own network - you can't tell me there aren't people up in Providence, Springfield, and Portland working the graveyard shift who would love to talk Boston sports. Though if the new ESPN deal prohibits this, then perhaps it won't be happening.

It hasn't...call it inside info. To say I could name even one of the shows that will be on from 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM would be false, I'm not much of a 1510 listener anymore...

We'll have to see if the news about the prog talk being extended breaks on Rev Boston and WWZN sites and the Save Boston Prog Talk yahoo group. If indeed true, then maybe 98.5 is the one picking up JT's show at least;
otherwise, 890 back on w/ Fox Sports? 1200 or 1430 switching? (DOUBTful) Someone else? We'll find out

I wouldn't put too much stock in such "inside info." Some of these rumore do come true--eventually, though usually not on the rumored schedules. But at least as many never happen. So I don't think that you are doing yourself or anyone else much of a favor by circulating rumors that you can't or won't substantiate.

"shrugs"...OK, whatever you say, I'm not the radio message board champ you are so I'll take your advice. For the record I heard the new format on 890 is going to be Spanish. I would guess 98.5 would be the landing spot with JT the Brick, overnight SNR is pretty brutal...the latter statement is 100% a guess on my part...
