Buddy Shula Closes On Purchase Of WKEY-FM Key West, Flips Station To Smooth Jazz

They can play that one duet from Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett. :p

Key west might be the most over-radioed market in the country. The population is less than 25K and there are something like 25 signals in the market with all but one being FM. Don't know how anyone makes any money there.

In 2021, Key West got over 700,000 tourists. But the question is, how many of them are listening to the radio? Many hotel rooms don't include a radio anymore, not even a clock radio. And the island is only eight square miles, so I can't imagine many of them drive that much when they're there.

Plus there are are only so many bars, restaurants and T-shirt shops you can sell to.
