Byron Allen Reportedly Makes $10 Billion Offer for ABC/Disney TV Stations and Networks

If Allen media got ABC then KITV Honolulu would be an ABC O&O. Woah Hawaii is in an interesting situation outside of the top 10 Markets where Nexstar and Allen Media are named as candidates for ABC. KHON and KITV could be an O&O of ABC if either one gets this deal.

The offer includes mandatory repeats of 'Funny You Should Ask,' 2-3 scripted court shows and at least one run of 'Comics Unleashed'...am I right?
I can't imagine WABC New York owned by Byron, but stranger things have happened.

And since I live in Honolulu, that would be tricky since KHON just reupped with Fox, but sister KHII could be a candidate since KHON is the top rated station in the Aloha State. Another situation we could see is Nexstar selling the stations, but chances are that Allen will have a advantage that will keep KITV with ABC, who’ll be approaching 70 years on April 16, 2024 as the longest running ABC affiliate outside the mainland United States.

If Nexstar gets ABC then Nexstar would call on Mission Broadcasting to get the TV licenses of WABC, KGO, KABC, WLS, KTRK, WTVD WPVI in that situation. KFSN Fresno would have to go to an unrelated party though given that Nexstar owns KGPE and KSEE in the area.

Byron Allen has a better chance at getting TEGNA than the 8 ABC owned TV stations along with FX, NATGO, surprised he didn't want ESPN if he is going to buy the TV stations.

For a man that can buy station for $10 billion why is the programs his company produces the cheapest bottom of the barrel shows? Why not produce better shows with all the money he has? He is producing the shows on a shoestring, you'd think he had no money.

To paraphrase the Grey Poupon commercials from decades ago…”how do you think” he “got so rich?”

Just kidding, to a degree. But there’s nothing wrong with making profit on cheaper, filler shows. It’s a part of the ecosystem and serves its purpose.

Because stations need shows to fill in their schedules and don't want to pay anything for them. Allen figured this out and churns out a bunch of free barter programming for stations. Individually each show has a pretty small viewer base but when packaged together it's enough to sell to advertisers. Allen got rich from doing this not from producing award winners or critically acclaimed shows.

In the movie business, his counterpart would be Tyler Perry. He churns out flatulent 90-minute packages of cliched dialogue, tired sight gags and sappy happy endings on a minimal budget -- mostly starring himself -- that generally go to TV quickly and run over and over and over. He'll never win an Oscar but that's not what he's in the business for. Roger Corman did the same thing with the horror and thriller genres in the previous century, minus the ego-trip starring roles. They did a modest business at the theaters, then became staples of overnight TV before infomercials dried up that market.

Enough to sell to Liberty Liberty Liberty so they can run Limu Emu for the 15,000th time...GEICO...that awful Jardiance: The Musical campaign...Burger King's garbage "jingle"...who else am I missing?

.that awful Jardiance: The Musical campaign.
No, not Jardiance!!! The plus-size, happy, singing diabetic actress and her happy, singing and presumably diabetic supporting cast pouring their heats out to celebrate a new medication? As a plus-size diabetic man, the ad makes me happy. Great campaign. (But not a brilliant one. The only current campaign rated that high is Progressive's "Dr. Rick.")

Unfortunately.
Don't forget o-o-o-Ozempic. Continuing to botch the Pilot song to this day.

Before that they used variations on the early 60s instrumental "Apache"....political correctness ended that?

Considering Disney announced yesterday that they would be selling off certain assets and rolling that money back into theme parks and cruises, I believe the number being thrown around is closer to $60B, not $10.
