caller10 in character for July 25, 2005 -- an important day in ATL radio history

What happened that we should commemorate tomorrow the sixth anniversary of, the beginning of an era that began on Monday, July 25, 2005?

If you go to http://www.archive.org/ and look up older versions of http://www.b985.com, you'll see:

on Friday, July 22, 2005, the Beeeeeeee98.5 FM website said "Start your work day with the B98.5FM Most Music At Work Kickoff. More Than 2 Hours of Commercial Free Music starting at 8:30am!! It's truly Atlanta's Longest Music Sweep...Only on B98.5FM!"

however, on Thursday, July 28, 2005, it says "Start your work day with the B98.5FM "98 AT 9"! Over 98 Minutes of Commercial Free Music starting weekday mornings at 9:00am!! It's truly Atlanta's Longest Music Sweep...Only on B98.5FM!".

Therefore I have determined that Monday, July 25, 2011 ... is the sixth anniversary of B98.5 FM's 98 at 9! Have you heard about it? It's truly one of the most important days in Atlanta radio history! While this momentous occasion may not be acknowledged publicly by Cox/WSB-FM, we who experienced and witnessed it know that it was here, a good friend that remains and lives on in our hearts. Remembrance of 98 at 9 day can be marked in many different ways. One way I suggest is to load up your iPod with at least 98 minutes of soft rock! Make sure to include some 70s tunes! Even if the clouds outside are dark and graye, put yourself in a bright and cheery mood at 9am Monday morning! Speaking for myself... 98 at 9: "you are the music sweep that I've always dreamed of. I knew it from the start." Wishing you and yours a Happy 98 at 9 Day from caller10!

Actually, Caller 10, the whole thing started around 2000 when Peach 94-9 introduced the "8AM All-Music Hour." Exactly 1 week later, B98.5 unabashedly countered with the "9AM All-Music Hour." Both stations did this until (I believe) Spring, 2005, when then-CC Market Manager Jerry Del Core ended Peach's version, saying it was causing too many back-to-back commercials in the hours surrounding 8-9. I expected B98.5 to then drop their music hour, but they didn't. Eventually it became the "98 at 9."

Exactly. But as the wise sage Kelly McCoy is cited in the oral legend of B98.5 FM, in reference to promoting the fact that B98.5 FM plays 98 minutes of music every weekday morning at 9, Kelly McCoy said "We call it the 98 at 9". Therefore Monday, July 25, 2011 ... is a solemn yet joyous occasion of remembering the day (7/25/05) six years earlier it began to be called the "98 at 9".
