Camera equipment of KGO-TV news crew stolen outside SF City Hall

I thought they hired armed security to accompany them on assignments? Maybe they only do that if they are going to Oakland.

My impression is that more and more TV news operations are going with the reporter/camera operator concept, where the reporter operates his/her own camera - which KRON made SOP for their reporters when they were bleeding money under Young Broadcasting. If that's the case, the reporter doesn't even get a companion, much less armed security.
