Can anyone tell me about Jim Glassman and his stations in Champaign?

I have seen numerous ads for a market manager in Champaign over Radio Star, Inc's stations. I am out of the market. Does anyone have any insight about this company?

Thanks-

This is not a flame to anyone who works there, the management, or the stations, and it's definitely not personal. I just know enough about the situation to make these conclusions:

Programming-wise they are decent stations. However, they haven't been able to keep a sales staff or any kind of management in the building. Ownership will NOT spend any kind of money on anything. Make do with what you have. If you make too much money you'll have a target on your back (read, you make more than $30,000 a year).

Avoid those stations like the plague.

I sent a resume for this place, and he did not even take me seriously. I've had market manager experience a few years back. He offered me a sales position. Sorry!

There is a reason that some groups have this kind of turnover...avoid this one, unless you keep your resume ready.

Is this guy related in any way to Larry Nelson, who once/still owns WSQR in Sycamore and WSPY in Plano?
Sounds like they have the same "scorched earth" management style.

Joe Bob is right on.. I had a great client list when they called me for an interview.. I was going for PD/OM, as I was more of an air person and did sales on the side.. They totally ignored my multi-years programming and promotional background and proded me to go into sales 'only' for them.. I politely turned it down and stayed on with a better organization...

If the stations were doing well, Glassman would not likely be extending the opportunity to buy in or earn "sweat equity"--or whatever it is he's offering. If everything was running smoothly he would more likely just be counting the cashflow and tapping the bank account.

So don't let the cluster's f**ked up condition and his own personal wretched reputation stop you from exploring what could be a great opportunity. I've made an entire lucrative career out of following f**k-ups, cleaning up the messes, and cashing in. Frankly, it beats the hell out of following brilliant people and being expected to be even more brilliant!

The main thing is to have a good lawyer in your corner and make certain Glassman is giving you complete authority--and more than enough time--to make the decisions and spend the money the way you deem necessary to turn the cluster around. He's got to agree the get the hell out of the way.
