CAN ANYONE TOP JACK RAYMOND'S TIME AS PD AT WEIM, FITCHBURG?

I may be wrong, but the Program Director of WEIM in it's heyday, Jack Raymond, held the PD position for something like 30 years (1970-2000?). Does anyone in any New England come close to that?

Jack, now retired, is a tremendously talented guy who decided early on to make his career in a small market, rather than play musical chairs in the majors. He had many offers to go to the majors, but chose to stay at WEIM. Instead, he mentored a lot of talent through the years, including many who did well.
 
Bruce Arnold has been PD of WCCM for 40-something years.

Looked at Jack's website and didn't see WORC in Worcester listed as one the stops on his career path,
although he has a WORC jingle on his site. I seem to remember that he was a newsman there around
1969 or 1970 but had to abruptly leave the employ of the station for less than desirable reasons. Anyone
know that story?
 
Yes, but Bruce's long service was interrupted for a few years in the late 1970s, when he took a job outside of radio. (I want to say it was something like a publicity position for a charity, Red Cross perhaps?). He then returned to WCCM. But yes, he has equaled or surpassed Jack's 30+ years at WEIM.
 
Jack was brillant....remember, these were the days before touch screen studios...all his bits were carted up and the show prep was amazing. Jack hired my to do the 6-mid shift on Sundays back in the early 80's. Great experience on a real fun station. But the days of music formats on AM were fading. I understand WEIM has changed their calls? WHY? It certainly was a heritage station and Jack Raymond was a huge talent.
Thanks Jack for the opportunity. Radio has been my livelyhood for 25 years, although no longer behind the mic.
 
Ed Perry is probably the PD at WATD, I don't know if they have anyone that does the job or holds the title, but if you have ever heard of the " W.E.L." format, there is no doubt he is program and music director!

If we assume for the sake of conversation he is the PD at 95.9, he has been in the chair 34 years and counting.

Last spring, after about 65 years, they changed the calls to WPKZ. At the same time they changed from a (half) full-service AC to neocon talk. But it's not like they'd never changed formats before. Maybe they want to protect the anonymity they've enjoyed in recent years. ;)
