NOTES
In early February Newcap's CKKY 830 in Wainwright,AB once again applied to flip to 101.9 with 57,000 watts (100,000 watts Max. ERP). This application was withdrawn on February 26. My thoughts are that possible interference issues with CKER 101.7 in Edmonton led to the withdrawal. CKKY's original FM conversion application in September, 2008 was denied due to the CRTC's common ownership policy.

Hmmm...will this not interfere with UBC's relay, which operates on 99.9 in Brockville?

CKJJ-FM-2 Brockville is officially low-power (LP), which means it is unprotected. The proposed Gananoque station is class 'B', which would make it a protected signal. In short this means if MBC is permitted to broadcast on 99.9 in Gananoque, UBC will have to find a new frequency for its Brockville signal.

I wonder how many more communities in Ontario MBC is thinking of applying for radio stations in. Some of their next targets I could see them pursuing:

- Bowmanville
- Amherstburg
- Port Hope
- Ingersoll
- Beamsville
- Carleton Place
- Rockland
- Elmira
- Angus
- Port Perry

That very situation occurred with MBC's new station in Brighton CIYM 100.9. The UCB repeater CKJJ-1 in Cobourg, also on 100.9 has been forced to find a new frequency. UCB had proposed moving it to 90.7 but that was rejected by the CRTC on the grounds that 90.7 should be reserved for a future local broadcaster rather than a straight simulcast.
http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2010/2010-33.htm

As far as I know both stations are currently operating on 100.9 until CKJJ-1 finds an acceptable alternative frequency. Must be a mess on the air out there for both stations.
