Cantore: TWC to kill Friday Movie tonight for Severe Wx... or not?

Around 5pm (eastern), JimCantore tweeted:
TWC is NOT doing movie night tonight. They are staying LIVE to cover SVR WX Outbreak.

Then, around 10pm, he tweeted again:
I want to apollogize [sic] to all of you. I was SEVERELY mislead. Was told we were bagging the "movie" to do what this network was created for.

That's an interesting twist.

This is the reason why I stick with the (bleep)ing local news. At least they break for this kind of severe weather and ignore it like The "Movie" Channel. Ever since Al Roker came in, it all started to go downhill. Al's one bad apple.

In light of this, wanna bet Cantore walks by the end of the year?

I bet he'll be outta there faster than you can say "thermometer."

Maybe he'll bring back the old "A.M. Weather" and do his own thing for PBS stations.

I was watching last night and they did cover up to the replay time, and then that was it. It was ridiculous and definitely with the weather moving in, the coverage should've continued rather than continuing to air the bomb they did.

I thought before now that Cantore was tolerating what the powers at the Weather Channel were doing because he got loads of NBC face time. Obviously with this frustration now it's not the case and like the rest of the OG OCM's he's really not happy at all with what they're doing, especially with the movie.

Well this afternoon They pre-empted When Weather Changed History for coverage of the tornadoes in Colorado and the 15 inches of rain they got in Wisconsin or Tennessee (I wasn't really paying attention because I don't live in either one of those places nor do I have any family there). I know you guys don't like it when The Weather Channel shows these shows, but I have to say I was a little disappointed they were preempted today. My whole afternoon TV viewing schedule was whacked because of it.

My afternoon viewing schedule for today was supposed to be the following:

1PM Urban Legends x 2 - Biography Channel
2pm When Weather Changed History - Weather Channel: A look at the plane crash into the Potomac River back in 82. - This was of interest to me because it happened a few months before I was born.
3PM Storm Stories x 2 - Weather Channel: A microburst causes damage at the Dallas Cowboys Training Facilities. Then about a tornado.

Now I'm stuck with nothing to watch on TV.

I can understand why you are disappointed because that sounds like a good lineup you had going there. I would of watched "When Weather Changed History - Potomac River Plane Crash" because my dad's cousin actually saw the plane hit the bridge and crash.

Hmmmm, maybe, just maybe the problem is not enough people were tuning in for that at all times. Anyone consider that? ::)

Perhaps TWC is listening to some the criticism. They were live most of the afternoon today with the mid-south severe weather. But again, I wonder how relevant this is to those outside the region? TWC has some challenging questions as to how to image and define themselves. Maybe, what is old can be new again..."The Environment Channel" might work. Cover stories like global warming (or not), oil spills, and throw in severe weather. IDK. Lots of options, none of which are sure-fire.

It's almost as if the channels are driving us who are wanting the information and entertainment the channels were founded on to find that from other sources. I don't depend on the weather channel anymore, their alternative programming has driven me to other outlets that have the information they USED to have.

No doubt some people didn't join the new century and find ways to get the information they got a generation ago from only a few sources, but saying they're driving people to the places most of them already were is flipping the entire cuase-and-effect idea around.
