THE THING about giving Bill Malone a life achievement award is he's still achieving. They had better leave room on the plaque. This is a guy who has a new book out in May, another coming in, well, whenever he has time to finish it, and, oh yes, this week his radio show celebrated its 11-year anniversary.

The other thing about giving Malone a lifetime achievement award, which the Society for American Music is doing early next month in Texas, is that if you expect him to show up you had better make sure the UW men's basketball team doesn't have a big game at the same time. ...
