Over the past few weeks, there has been, for me, a lone saving grace - one thing that has kept the weekend afternoon shopping excursions from being unmitigated agony. As I sit in my car and steam, I turn on Rick Murphy's WIBA/AM 1310 radio program, and much of the steam goes away.

Murphy is a Madison radio veteran of almost 40 years now, and he has done pretty much everything in the business, from spinning records to recording voice-over commercials. His current gig, which he has had weekends on WIBA since 2000, is getting interesting people to come on and talk.

That's right - talk radio without screaming. What a concept. ...
