Public radio liberal? Well, yes, panel says

Public radio broadcasters tend to be liberal, while listeners break down nearly evenly along political lines, with slightly more of them identifying as conservative, said Jack Mitchell, who spent 30 years in public radio before becoming a UW-Madison journalism professor.

Conservatives will listen to classical music or possibly "A Prairie Home Companion," he suggested.

Meanwhile, liberals tend to listen to the news programs, and they listen for longer. A conservative might tune into a news show briefly and say, "Oh, they're still at it!" Mitchell told a gathering of about 30 people, mostly UW students, in a lecture room in the Mosse Humanities Building. ...

Mitchell is the author of "Listener Supported: The Culture and History of Public Radio," while Davidson just came out with a book called, "9XM Talking: WHA Radio and the Wisconsin Idea."

...really? Gee, I guess that's why WPR purged themselves of Harry Shearer, Dave Berkman and Duke Skorich for their "liberal political content"...
