Carrie Underwood to Headline 'Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve'

It ain’t 2016 until Carrie Underwood says it is.

The country music star is set to headline ABC’s “Dick Clark‘s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2016.”

“There’s nowhere else I’d rather be than New York’s Times Square, one of the most magical places in the world, to ring in the New Year,” said Underwood. “It’s going to be a memorable night, and I can’t wait to celebrate with the world!”

In addition to Underwood’s performance, Jenny McCarthy will report live from Times Square while singer Fergie returns to host the Billboard Hollywood Party.

Carrie will be great for this. I wish they'd drop Jenny McCarthy, but sometimes one must take the good (Carrie) with the not so good (McCarthy).

The report reminded me of my wishing for the program to be renamed simply "New Year's Rockin' Eve" since the Dick Clark referenced in its current title cannot be part of its production due to his no longer being alive among us.

By the way, umfan, why did you refer to the main subject of the report (Carrie Underwood) by only her first name and one of its other subjects (Jenny McCarthy) by only her last name?

Because, Mario, I like and admire Ms. Underwood and have the opposite feeling regarding Ms. McCarthy.

Why does it matter?

^Because it appeared disrespectful and unfair toward Jenny McCarthy.

He may be gone, but his production company lives on. "New Year's Rockin' Eve" is owned and produced by Dick Clark Productions, so his name won't be leaving the show he once hosted.

Disrespectful, how? I didn't call her any names, other than her own nor did I make an insulting comment. I'm hardly alone in not being a fan of hers. I do not think she is a good talent. I expressed what clearly was my subjective opinion in a place appropriate to express such an opinion.

So those two huge tourist attractions in California and Florida should be renamed simply "Land" and "World" because Walt Disney is "no longer alive among us," to use your quaint phraseology?

You referred to her in an impersonal way (you could have referred to her as Miss McCarthy from the beginning instead of just her last name at least).

No, since those places were created by a company named after its founder.

Right. I think I'll dedicate the remaining years of my life to removing dead people's names from things.

The Ed Sullivan Theater will change its name to "That Building on Broadway where Colbert is Taped."

Ronald Reagan International Airport - change it back to Washington National

and while we're talking about airports - "Washington Dulles" is way overdue for a change. John Foster Dulles died during the Eisenhower Administration.

and then there's "Mineta San Jose International Airport." Oh wait - Norman Mineta is still alive. But when he passes away...

I don't see anything wrong with Jenny McCarthy. Ryan Seacrest is also not so bad, though I prefer Carson Daly.

Now as for music, when they're not showing Times Square, I would rather watch the people in the Waldorf Astoria dance to Guy Lombardo.
