Cat's Out of the Bag: WNKT Launches Monday

I seriously doubt football will be leaving WTCB. The university made such a stink about being on a "100,000 watt FM" and pointed at a bunch of other SEC schools that already had that privilege when they were making the move. I don't see them giving that up. I would anticipate ALL of the other sports being moved over to WNKT along with the Falcons affiliation that's currently with WISW.

Now what will they fill the rest of their time with? Sporting News Radio? Dan Patrick 9AM - Noon possibly?

Trent,

While you are right about the University making a stink about having to have a 100kw FM, 107.5 is not that far off.

I disagree with the premise that Football stays on WTCB after this season.

USC football will be absolutely crucial to the success of WNKT and the male-oriented sports programming has to be moved off of the female music station WTCB.

I ran the frequency search and didn't see an alternate frequency that worked for them without a waiver of the 2nd adjacency separation. What you are using must be better than what I have to do searches.

Yes, I have no doubt that football will be simulcasted on the station (just as it is simulcasted on WISW now), but I still don't think it will leave WTCB. Although, with Mike McGee being gone now, perhaps the university's feelings have changed. Time will tell.

WGNH might need a 2 adjacent weaver for WNKT but that would be all and their 100 watt signal would never bother WNKT if you sat and looked at the WGNH tower. The FCC will give and take a little on existing LPFM and translators stations that are moved in on when they see there is little or no problem with interferance.

Right now, WNKT looping this one song which I can't name because I'm not a country music enthusiast, and playing liners directing listeners to WIWF 96.9 The Wolf. Here's some audio of the stunt, featuring that one song, along with at least three different - and highly creative - liners.

Does anyone know what the song is called, by the way?

It's "The Dance" by Garth Brooks.
Ah, I see. Thanks a lot for info. By the way, last night, WNKT was looping this song as well, but they stopped it after a while and replaced it with a college sports broadcast of some sort. After that, it went back to looping that Garth Brooks song.

WTMA is the other station that carries Carolina sports in Charleston currently.

Well, I guess 6AM was not their launch time in Columbia for WNKT. I'm getting some religious station on my little radio by my computer and static from the car radio.

As of 9:20 AM EST, WNKT is still looping Garth Brooks' "The Dance", with liners directing listeners to 96.9 The Wolf played in between each playing of the song. They have been doing this for something like 68 hours already. When will it end?

Mark, their stream is still looping that, but I think the Charleston and Columbia terrestrial signals are both off. I picked up WKZL out of Winston-Salem pretty well on my way in this morning.

Thanks for the info, Trent. This stunt, if you could call it that, has to end eventually, you know. If they keep it up, they could break a world record. Seriously.

I dunno - remember when they went from Bubba to Cat back in the late 90's? They were Garth 107-5 for several days before tehy made the switch.
