CBS 46 News on Peachtree TV/ch. 17

CBS outlet WGCL/ch. 46 debuted a 9 PM newscast on sister station WPCH/ch. 17 last week, touting it as the earliest news in prime time. Given WGCL’s track record with local news, it’ll be interesting to see how far this venture goes on 17.

This isn't the first time an Atlanta TV station has ever had a 9PM newscast. Back in the late 1990s to early 2000s when cable company MediaOne existed, they had a local Atlanta cable network called TV33 named after the cable channel number. No, you could not pick this up via rabbit ears; This was MediaOne cable only. WXIA-TV 11Alive did a 9PM newscast on TV33 for a few years. Of course, TV33 was also known for doing a TV simulcast of WSB Radio's AMN (Atlanta's Morning News) with Scott Slade. TV33 also did rebroadcasts of WAGA-TV FOX5 Atlanta's GDA (Good Day Atlanta) along with FOX5's 12PM (12 Noon) newscast and prior to 11Alive's 9PM newscast coming into existence, TV33 went under another name MOneNews (MediaOne News) Channel 33. During the MOneNews Channel 33 era, they would air rebroadcasts of FOX5's 5PM, 6PM, & 10PM newscasts. Of course, MediaOne got bought out by AT&T Broadband and then AT&T Broadband got bought out by Comcast. Anyway, that is all.

well i guess spectrum and Meredith must be having complications because the program guide says that ER is on every night at 9pm on channel 17. I guess CBS 46 might gain more eyeballs at 9pm if the program guide on cable showed that news was on instead of the 90s medical drama.
