CBS-FM Airing Giants Preseason Games, Too!

What is the big deal about interrupting the regular programing for a few hours once a week. I dont think it makes that much of a difference to the average listener. Even if CBS ran the game on multiple stations I dont think it will matter in the short run or long run. If listeners check out other music sources for 4 hours a week they will most likely come back to cbs-fm after the game. In San Diego, which has 1 fm and 3 am sports talkers the Chargers are on a FM rock station for all their games. I very seriously doubt that the 20 days out of 365 that they break for a game hurts the regular format or alienates listeners. When I am in NY I find the Yankees on 880 to be more of an inconvenience when I cant get a traffic report.

That is why WINS will not pick up any overflow sports. CBS has to have one all-news station available in NY at all times.

When the Yankees are playing, WCBS Newsradio continues online. If WCBS Newsradio had an FM simulcast, they could run the baseball game on 880 and continue the news both on FM and online. :)

It's not even 20, it's only less than about 5 when the Yankees and Mets are both playing when the Giants are playing.

The games should air on 1010 WINS. Period. And I don't want to hear about the "All News" angle... WINS was the Yankees flagship in the 70's thru 1981 when WABC got them. WINS is a disaster right now (have you noticed how alot of the "new" bumpers that were rolled out in May with alot of fanfare have been scaled waaaaay back?). It's behind WCBS AM in many ways and the demos are aging badly. What keeps WCBS AM younger is the Yankees in the summer when they cash in. Maybe WINS could get some help here.

WCBS FM or any of the CBS FM outles shouldn't have afternoon and weeknight programming interrupted during the week (it happens 2 times.. one in preseason on a Thursday and on a Monday in regular season) for Giants football. CBS has built a #1 MUSIC station in NYC and the games are NOT suited for Fresh (CBS won't put it there especially with the high priced Jim Ryan in the building) or NOW, which despite what people here think is doing very well and continuing to rise in cume and in their target demos..

The castoff FAN programming should go somewhere else... either have the Giants lease time on WBBR or put it on WINS.

As far as I know, the overflow Giants' games will air on 92.3 FM. The pre-season and early season games last year aired on 101.1, a move that was panned by CBS-FM listeners. The Giants rights are owned by CBS, which means the games must air on a CBS owned station. Overflow games cannot be sold to WBBR. No games will be put on WINS as long as the station remains all-news. In the NY market, baseball is #1.

As for WINS' future, it should become a news-based talk station and move to FM. Migrating to FM will help their demos. It's happening in many other markets. Sports is also migrating to FM as well.

If NOW doesn't close the gap with Z100 and KTU, a simulcast with WFAN on 92.3 could happen. :)

Your right i think Giants overflow games are gonna be on 92.3FM this year
92.3FM is gonna carry all 4 Giants preseason games and at least the 1st game of the season
actally NowFM is doing well and i think they are a step away from making Z100 go off the air :)

Z-100 going off the air? We couldn't be that lucky.

Now FM will be gone way before Z100! :)

In Boston, WBIX-AM is being sold to a Christian broadcaster. I would bet dollars to donuts that "Big 105" (WBIX-FM) returns to New York radio before Z-100 is blown up!

Radio is a Monday-Friday 6a-7p business. This is when the serious advertiser dollars are spent.

IF CBS were smart, all the Giants games would air on CBS FM. It's not like another station would launch another "Greatest Hits" station because of football airing on Sunday afternoons and the occasional evening.

Look around the NFL-----FM is where the teams want to be.

thank you, my dear....but they're not really "The" Marvelettes;
word has it that Berry Gordy lost the rights to the name "Marvelettes" at a casino, late night, deep into debt, decades ago...
now they just send these 20 year old girls out singing the songs and using the name...sad....almost as bad as the maltreatment of Martha Reeves and the 70s Supremes when Jean Terrell took Diana Ross' spot...
shame on Motown!
...by the way, there are 2 capital L's in LaLumia...

Very true! If NOW-FM doesn't start making real headway against Z100, you'll see WFAN simulcasting on 660 AM and 92.3 FM, IMHO. That'll put all Giants games on FM. The Mets would simulcast on AM and FM, except when the Giants are playing, when it would be baseball on AM and football on FM. It's done this way in many NFL markets. It will happen in NY eventually. :)

I plan to be there Sept 4. Kenny Vance will be there as well. I was at the earlier Doo Wop concert at Ocean Grove June 26. :)

I never understood that. Why do these NFL teams want to be on FM stations all of a sudden?

Well, think about it: Why do major radio companies want to put longtime AM radio staples like Rush Limbaugh on FM stations all of a sudden?

I sure hope NOW and RXP (two bland stations) would get better ratings than Rush Radio. Please, NYC should be the least likely city for Rush to be on FM. After all, talk radio on FM in NY has tanked before (102.7).

Radioguy, Kenny Vance is Awesome, he always gets a great big crowd. I wanted to go the Doowop June 26, but I had the Richard Nader show in NJ that I always go too. If you like Doowop, thats always a great show. The Sept Doowop I hope to go, Thanks Lalumia, for the news about the Mavelettes. I hate when they don't have at least one singer in the group. Richard Nader shows always tries to get at least one original member.

Yes, but that was not the conservative talk that appears to be popular in most parts of the country, popular enough to warrant Clear Channel to flip the switch on "Rush Radio" stations on FM (not to mention FM talkers in Pittsburgh and Minneapolis, among other places)...
