CBS lawyers tell Colbert not to interview Texas Democratic Rep. James Talarico---and not to mention it.

Yes the part about CBS Lawyers advising Colbert one would guess its drama with Bari Weiss and David Ellison at first.

Since its a different division within Paramount its about this one the Equal time rule the one that hit Disney recently over the View on ABC related to James Talarico appearance on that show as a candidate for congress in the 2026 elections.

Talarico is running against Rep. Jasmine Crockett in a Democratic primary. Colbert has had Crockett on. If the issue is an election is underway, it's Democrat running against Democrat in this particular election.

The powers that be aren't afraid of Crockett. While she has her constituency, her stances and approach could well be alienating to voters in a general election. Talarico is less confrontational and seems to have more appeal to swing voters. It's harder to paint him as extreme. You can draw your own conclusions from there.

The big, big mistake CBS legal made here was trying tell Colbert not to talk about it. There's at least a thin thread of justification possible for not airing the Talarico interview. But trying to gag Colbert...it just gives the story that much more traction. It also draws more attention to the interview, since it is available online.

The incompetence! But, these days, it seems political alliances reign supreme over competence. (Where's Mike Royko when you need him?)

The specific reason is because The View is already under FCC investigation because they interviewed Talarico. So there is context:

However, the rule doesn't require any FCC involvement unless there's a complaint by another candidate. So this is another fake investigation.

As I've said, don't expect media companies that depend on government licenses to fight the agency that issues those licenses.

Can’t he just invite the other side on or will the FCC find a loophole.

Colbert has had Crockett on twice in the past two years---most recently eight months ago. You're right. He could have booked Crockett again last night and this wouldn't have happened. The GOP likely wants to run against Crockett in a statewide Senate race.

There isn't even that. As it stands now, the news exemption exists for shows like The View, Colbert, Fallon, Kimmel and Seth. Brendan Carr hasn't overturned anything...he's just threatening to. This is compliance in advance.

There is no other side. It's a democrat primary. This is all a fake issue.

Unless a candidate complains, there is no role for the FCC.

What has to happen is for dems to complain about talk radio. Over & over. Make a big stink about talk radio.
So if there is no issue why is See BS running with its tail between its legs.

They want to get FCC and DOJ approval to buy WBD. If you want a favor, you have to do a favor. That's how this admin works.

Colbert did the right thing. They can't fire him, because he's already out.

Just like that on Elon's hellsite, right-wingers are experts on and fans of equal time rules. One told me they don't apply to radio because Soros owns "Latin Radio" (what?)

They're also looking for ways to prevent protesters from owning guns. The 2nd amendment only applies to them. Hypocrites.

Just because Carr says something doesn't mean it's true. He often makes stuff up for Fox News.

Once again, my friend, you are so enthusiastic about posting that you create disjointed, punctuation-free sentences which give me a headache in deciphering.

I think you are asking if the Equal Time rule applies here. Technically, it could, but -- as has been stated already -- this is a primary and so the only valid claim would be from other candidates of the same party on that party's ballot.

IIRC, the 2026 "incident" was similarly about an appearance during the primary season. Were there other Democrats running against him in that primary, and if so did any of them claim equal time? All I find in searching is Brendan Carr (as usual) wanting to have an "investigation".
