CBS moves a few college football games to 5 PM start

Oh yes...GOLF!

Heaven forbid a football game cuts into the final moments of a "edge of your seat" game of golf... ::)

Does anyone know why? It seems very strange to me. I could understand if the change was early during the season but the game slots moved seem very random to me.

It's only 2 single-games (9/29 & 11/3) plus one second game of a twin-bill on Thanksgiving weekend (11/24). Might be for golf in the case of the first two (not sure when the PGA tour ends), and they could be carrying a college basketball game at 11 AM EST before the two football games in November.

It can't be for increased ratings in the west since that's Pac-10 country and ABC will be carrying their games at that time. So I'm not sure why they're doing this.

You figure the game runs past eight p.m...right into prime time. They might get a similiar spike to what the NFL Doubleheader game gets on Sunday.

Lets face it. Whats on Saturday nights at 7? Reruns of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune...The E Entertainment Inside Star weekly wrapup...or infomercials.

I'm thinking the CBS affilliate in Tampa will air their 6 pm newscast online.

If this were 25 years ago, I would say Hee Haw, Lawrence Welk, and "other".

Of course, Saturdays of late have proven to be the lowest ratings generator of the week across the board. I recall seeing another thread regarding ABC affiliates pre-empting the network movie "Finding Nemo" with their own programming. I understand they replaced this movie because these stations had "make goods" deals and Saturday would be the best day to burn them off, since less people would likely be watching TV at all.
