CBS Radio brass in NYC need to end talk on 1210 AM

I speak for the folks on this board that agrees with me that I think its time for Dan Mason and the other CBS brass to drop the talk format for something else on 1210 AM. Its long overdue for a change to the station. Andy Bloom and Marc Rayfield and other folks are the reason 1210 AM is in the bad shape that its in , programming and ratings wise , and its very sad. I won't be shocked if CBS dismisses both Bloom and Rayfield and bring in someone new to run 1210 AM and CBS radio Philadelphia.

Speaking for the people on the board who agree with the OP...is there, truly, any evidence that there's more than one or two people who shares the vendetta?

The only person on this board who you speak for is yourself. Nobody else here obsesses over WPHT.

What else would WPHT do? Sports is well represented and talk is the only format that would work on 1210. I agree that the afternoon show is very weak and unlistenable, but mornings and middays up till Rush is fine. Only alternative is Salem's 990 and 101.5 out of Trenton.

Julius never heard WCAU in its glory days (circa 1962 - 1976). The station he has heard (1996 - ) is about as bad as it ever was. It's never been much better than this. Even WWDB was better before they started doing infomercials passed off as talk shows along with syndicated crap.

Julius mourns the loss of a station that was never there to begin with. KYW once was something (pre-Shapiro). WPHT never was.

Salem's talk network only stays alive because of revenue generated by preachomercials. I have long been a fan of NJ 101.5 but it has been on a downhill slide in recent years thanks to Oaktree.

Since they had the guts to change the format for KFWB to sports, they should do the same with WPHT. I don't mind CBS radio here in Philly, having a 3rd sports station. Talk needs to go. Its failing in all aspects, I don't care how munch money its making. Talk is not a money maker for this market. WIP AM-FM, KYW and WOGL are making the most money out of the 5 CBS radio stations in town.

You don't mind...you don't care? Sorry, I didn't realize radio existed only for you and revolved around you. Maybe they care if they make money.

WIP610 has almost no audience (even less than 1210) and as a stand-alone is not making money. Maybe you noticed that the second sports talk station in town, 97.5 "The Fanatic" has an even smaller audience than 1210.

As usual, you've ignored the key point. If they throw away their current audience, small and old as it is, what makes you think they will get a new audience to listen?

CBS' only viable option at this point is... go all syndicated, all automated, all the time. Run the station into the ground and then sell to some preacher or brokered operator.

Too bad Premiere or Westwood or somebody hasn't come up with a morning show for stations like 1210. It seems all they can do is keep Imus on life-support at the "ranch."

at this point CBS needs to make money with 1210 and talk isn't making enough money I think to keep the format around. a Sports format will instantly make money 24/7 for a station. No wonder a lot of stations are going with sports, because it makes more money than talk.

But as we've explained to you several times, CBS already has a sports station in Philly. You don't make money when you cannibalize something already in the format.

This sounds like something Jim Cramer would say.
I don't care how much money they're making. They can't make any money in this market.

KFWB is owned by a blind trust, not CBS. And CBS has only one AM in LA, which is KNX, the all-news station.

WIP (AM) is actually billing pretty well... a touch more than WPHT, in fact. And WPHT is reported to have billed $9 million last year.

Maybe you noticed that the second sports talk station in town, 97.5 "The Fanatic" has an even smaller audience than 1210.

Yet it billed a nice $7 million last year.

CBS does not own KFWB. It's owned by a blind trust until such time as it can be liquidated.

It also does not have close to a full market signal.
