CBS Scores Big With "Game Of The Century"

But like most Super Bowls.....it was a boring defense-fest.

Unless I need to take a nap, and a soccer game isn't on, those two teams are off my schedule. ;D

I've wondered why ABC and CBS couldn't both carry Saturday night college football on a weekly basis. It definitely can't do any worse than the movies and reruns they carry now.

Saying this match-up is "Game of the Century" is a bit premature considering we're still in the early part of the century. Also, it's too vague of a title but I'm being nitpicky here. :p

I bet ABC wishs they had this game instead of Notre Dame at Wake Forest.
Maybe where you were. Here in Denver, we had the Kansas State/Oklahoma State game. Notre Dame/Wake Forest was on the actual ESPN channel

Cheers & 73 ;D

ABC couldn't have LSU/Alabama because CBS has the rights to the SEC
(although, if I'm not mistaken, ESPN was to have had the game and even
had crews in Tuscaloosa).

Off-topic, but what bugs me is the way the AP and USA Today polls short-
change Boise State (OK, they beat my beloved Georgia Bulldogs but they
are undefeated and deserve to be number four, ahead of Alabama); Boise
State should be making overtures toward the PAC-10 if they ever expect
the ranking they deserve and a shot at the BCS championship game.

Boise St. has a standing invitation to the Big East. They have not yet accepted or declined.

I'm with you, I'm tired of these ridiculous superlatives being tacked-on to every event. It will only be "the game of the century" until the next "game of the century." ::)

Wasn't it the first time #` and #2 (and from the same conference) played during the season?
You can see how that would make ESPN go overboard, without any Yankees-Red Sox news to cover. :)

I was personally very disappointed when the PAC-10 expanded with Utah and Colorado. Despite Utah's recent success neither team are first rate contenders whereas Boise State has a record of consistency. I think Boise State would have become the USC of the PAC-12 North and given the conference some real horsepower.

Which makes about as much sense geographically as West Virginia in the Big 12. However,
if Boise State accepts an invitation to the Big East, so be it. Membership in a major conference
is the only way they'll ever get a look-see for the BCS championship game.

With the defections the Big Least has suffered lately, are they really a major conference any more?

@BlueWanderer: Don't blame me, I'm just going by how the media was dubbing this matchup at the time. ::)

I wasn't blaming you at all. My comments were aimed at the media. They could've easily called it "SEC (or NCAA) Football Game of the Year" instead. At least that would make a lot more sense than this vague "Game of the Century", imo. ;D
