CBS sends KOVR/KMAX GM Bruno Cohen from Sacramento to WBBM-TV Chicago

Announced yesterday by CBS TV Pres/CEO Tom Kane,

the move puts Cohen in the chair Joe Ahern is departing.

Ahern ran ABC's KGO-TV/DT in San Francisco until he was recruited for the WBBM job in 2002, putting him back in Chicago where he'd run ABC's WLS-TV and helped put Oprah Winfrey on the air.

The press release announcing Ahern's appointment had glowing remarks, and high expectations... that weren't met.

WBBM-TV/DT has been plagued by poor ratings and revenue and CBS thinks Coehn can fix the problem.

Coehn's been in the Sacramento market since 2004, when he took over the top spot at what was the Viacom-owned UPN station, KMAX. He oversaw the integration of KMAX into the KOVR operations in West Sacramento after Viacom/CBS bought the market's CBS affiliate from Sinclair in April, 2005.

The station's facilities were redone and ratings for KOVR's news perked up. Revenue too.
