CBS Sports Radio coming to 107.1?

Speaking of K95.5... I don't know who's idea it is for Big D and Bubba but this is an awful morning show... They would be better with automated music in the morning... For a market as big as Columbus they should have a LOCAL LIVE morning show..

At least with the MOVE to 107.1 . WCOL's gonna likely gain a great share of WHOK's listeners... that and WCLT (which we don't get to see in the public figures)

I can't see 107.1's share going up much by the move due to it's distant signal. K95.5's has had heritage as a Country signal for as long as I can remember.

Looks official to me now. Well, at least we will have one less county stations in town! ;) 95.5 has
been country for about 25 years now so this is a major radio format change for Columbus.
I don't see WMNI-FM going country due to sports going over to 95.5.

Will 95.5 have any local talk shows?

95.5 WHOK Columbus Moving To 107.1

"For the past couple months we’ve been watching Wilks Broadcasting’s Columbus properties for one of their Country outlets to make a flip to Sports. That move will take place on Monday, April 1."

The Auto Smarts radio show, on K95 and 107.1, announced this morning that it is moving from K95 and 107.1. As of January 5, 2013 it is moving over to TVM.
They are moving over to TVN, from 8:00AM to 10:00AM on Saturdays. The same time they were
on K95 and 107.1. He went on to say, for the best in country stay tuned both to K95 and WINK 107.1, as if both stations are going to stay country. Makes me wonder if one of both will change formats.

Here is the show website:

K95 changing formats is no big surprise to me as I hinted over four months ago. The announcements K95 is running over the air today mention that K95 was Ohio first country radio station. They have been country for at least thirty years!

I don't see both changing formats. K95.5 seems to like playing that country for SE Ohio even though there's plenty of choices for country there too. 107.1 I expect to go away absolutely.

Maybe 107.1 will change to a classic county format when K95 moves over to 107.1 on Monday.
Just a guess on 107.1.

K95 has been country since 1948... That's 65 years.

It's slow decline began when somebody decided to run it like a CHR and run their powers at over 100-times per week. That's insane for this format. It might have worked for WNCI, but this is a different audience and lifestyle.

One thing that has me intrigued is that Clear Channel has lost the rights to air Cleveland Browns games to 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland which is of course CBS Sports Radio. Therefore the Brew here in Columbus won't be broadcasting the Browns either. So... that leaves the new CBS Sports Radio 95.5 the prime suspect to be the new home of the Cleveland Browns. Now that really has me excited. Go Browns!

Actually, it started to decline as soon as Cool 92 flipped to country. K-95 never had the best signal, and a better signal simply came along and killed it. WCOL-FM soared to the top in a single book as I recall. Granted, country was hot at the time, and 95.5 was able to keep going with it (and lasted longer than most of us thought it would). However, 92.3 going country was the beginning of the end.

Don't forget that 98.9 was also doing country then, and 92.3 bumped them off pretty quickly.  92.3's initial positioning was country without the static (paraphrasing here, I don't recall the exact positioner).  IIRC, the damage to 98.9 is one reason we ended up with Channel Z.

Clear Channel Cleveland may have lost the Browns, but that doesn't mean that other affilate stations, run by Clear Channel, automatcially lose the rights just because the team'sflagship does (the Browns are still on Clear Channel WONE 980 in Dayton).

Kent, K95 was able to maintain a 5+ share after 'COL entered the market as country and remained relevent. It nose-dived after playing "Where the Green Grass Grows" 100-times a week. And, to be specific, I'm not putting this blame on the programming department;this move was dictated from up higher.

As you said you can't program country like a CHR. 100x a week spins won't cut it - even today... Look at Nash FM even they have some "gold" in rotation. I am guessing this is one of the reasons Wink 107.1 has also always been a bottom feeder... beyond it's 3kw rim shot challenged signal... They lean heavy on currents/recurrent/new country... The few times I have turned in I have heard songs and thought "What is that? Who is that?"

This has probably already been mentioned somewhere on this 16-page (thus far) thread, but what is happening here is in tune with the national explosion in the number of sports-talk stations.  The Tom Taylor newsletter says that the Seattle market now has 6 sports-talkers, and numerous markets have 5.

Makes sense.... On his facebook, Torg alluded to something happening soon, in Columbus, and not with The Fan. Good for him.

Torg on 95.5 will bring a lot of people to the plate... I am sure his followers from WBNS will flip over to hear him.

I also see quite possibly picking up Cleveland Indians baseball or Cleveland Browns Football.
