CBS Sports Radio coming to 107.1?

Then why did they apply for the 1071SportsRadio.com domain name as late as January 16?
Was this just a bluff? Why would Wilks register this if they have no intention on changing formats on 107.1 any time soon?

"Starting in Columbus, 1071SportsRadio.com was claimed on January 16 by Wilks."

Can't use CBS content w/o permission, and seems it's on "auto-fill". That would have to be set up and ok'd by CBS.

That page looks like a CBS generated page.. In fact the web stream links to the national CBS Radio Network Feed... My guess that page was set up by CBS Sports Radio and not Wilks broadcasting.

They are still using the Yahoo! Sports Radio link for the morning, 6am-9am. They direct people to the CBS Sports Radio link for the rest of the day.

There's no excuse for a market our size to be left out of having an affiliate for a national network. Thanks for screwing this up, Wilks.

^ This is all part of the reason I said that some of the pieces were not in place and their plans were on hold. The potential flip of WHOK instead of Wink to CBS sports is one. The possibility of Torg appearing on one or more of Wilks' stations is the second reason. My understanding is that if Torg's non-compete was weak or had been waived in a deal with WBNS, he'd already be working for Wilks in various capacities.

How could Wilks steal the ESPN affiliation from under WBNS? Would WBNS flip to a different format if that happened? Wow. Doesn't WBNS have a contract in place with ESPN?

IF that were to happen, WBNS probably pick up CBS Sports Radio. OR they could pick up NBC Sports Radio Network, but they might have to fill in 5am-noon programming themselves (since they have local programming noon-6pm). NBC is only 7pm-5am during the week and 24/7 on weekends. They will be running full-time April 1.

ESPN likely has an "out" in the contract with WBNS A/F if they choose to leave Dispatch.. and if they do.. I don't see WBNS changing formats.. There is the big cash cow for them running a sports format (plus it gives them the excuse to talk Buckeyes 24/7).

It's interesting that Dispatch registered the domains flanking WHOK.. Seems like Dispatch is slightly concerned about someone else in town doing sports on FM. If Wilks hired Torg and did sports..They could easily hurt WBNS some.. Sure WBNS will always have the Buckeyes... but with Torg I could see some competition to them and would likely hurt their #s to a degree. (even though Dispatch doesn't subscribe to the Arbs)

Dispatch must be scared quite a bit if they're registering all these fake domain names. WBNS-FM/AM has had a stranglehold on Sports Talk for several years now(The FM just passed four years since they flipped from Hot AC on January 27, 2009), and any competition that isn't on the ill-fated 1230 AM I'm sure isn't good for them. My guess is that it would split their ratings in half of what they are now, whatever they are.
When WBNS-FM was Hot AC as "Mix 97.1", I always thought the drop-everything-and-cover-OSU attitude held Mix down from ever succeeding. I'm sure it drove their female audience away in droves. Nothing like throwing male-driven sports on a female-driven station. Idiots.
