CBS Sports Radio coming to 107.1?

Again, just because Clear Channel Cleveland lost the rights, doesn't automatically mean affiliate stations owned by Clear Channel lose the rights also. So it's still possible for 105.7 Columbus, 980 Dayton, and any others, to remain as affiliates.

I guess it's possible but I highly doubt that will be the case. My money is on 95.5 getting the Browns.

Unless Clear Channel is willing to pay well for them to stay on The Brew I see them going to 95.5 also... With the likelihood of Torg for a local show... Browns could get their coverage they want.. One of the reasons besides money they moved in CLE is because the new home can be "all things Browns" The Brew is a music station so there is not much room for Brown talk and WTVN is wrapped up in being "the buckeyes station that doesn't actually air the games"

Makes sense.... On his facebook, Torg alluded to something happening soon, in Columbus, and not with The Fan. Good for him.

Torg on 95.5 will bring a lot of people to the plate... I am sure his followers from WBNS will flip over to hear him.

I also see quite possibly picking up Cleveland Indians baseball or Cleveland Browns Football.

I checked 92.3 The Fan's schedule. It goes through April 14th. Torg isn't listed. As for the Indians, WBNS-AM is still listed as the Columbus affiliate, along with 1320 Lancaster and 1430 Newark.

Even though the Browns are the most popular NFL team around here, I can't see an all-Browns or mostly Browns station making it in Columbus, nor should it. This isn't Cleveland. Sure there are a lot of Cleveland sports fans around here, but Cincinnati is represented as well and no sports station can make it here with the Buckeyes shuffled to the side.

That's a valid point and your likely right.. but I still see Browns moving to 95.5 to allow more of a focus on them then they get out of The Brew.. Music stations don't talk up sports in most cases between the songs.

Besides -- Another reason I suggested Browns or the Indians for 95.5 is almost all sports stations fish for some form of major league team for their station line up.

K95 has been country since 1948... That's 65 years.

It's slow decline began when somebody decided to run it like a CHR and run their powers at over 100-times per week. That's insane for this format. It might have worked for WNCI, but this is a different audience and lifestyle.

Actually, it started to decline as soon as Cool 92 flipped to country. K-95 never had the best signal, and a better signal simply came along and killed it. WCOL-FM soared to the top in a single book as I recall. Granted, country was hot at the time, and 95.5 was able to keep going with it (and lasted longer than most of us thought it would). However, 92.3 going country was the beginning of the end.

Don't forget that 98.9 was also doing country then, and 92.3 bumped them off pretty quickly. 92.3's initial positioning was country without the static (paraphrasing here, I don't recall the exact positioner). IIRC, the damage to 98.9 isone reason we ended up with Channel Z.

Found this early 1992 article and this is the highest share K-95 aka WHOK has ever had as a
country station and some may say it was a fluke. A small part is quoted here and note this was about a year before WCOL-FM changed to Country from Oldies.

ARBITRON LOSERS ASSESS DAMAGE
Columbus Dispatch, The (OH) - Friday, May 8, 1992
Author: Tim Feran, Dispatch Radio Critic
The quarterly report from Arbitron Ratings was released last week and covers January through March.

What is more likely, several observers said, is that more people in some areas of the city - especially the East Side - returned Arbitron diaries.

"That would tend to favor WCLT (100.3 FM), WRZR, WHOK and WBNS-AM, which has its tower over there," another source said.

WCLT did show a slight increase, WHOK 's share made a big jump from 5.7 to 7.4 , and WBNS-AM outperformed its FM sister.

Led by WHOK (and following national trends), the country share of the market is booming. The River, WRVF (98.9 FM), had its best showing since last year's call-letter and format change.

What's going to be interesting is seeing how the folks in the Hocking Hills who've listened to this station for years will react.

I am guessing 107.7 WSEO is gonna be the winner for Country down that way.. WCLT also reaches down that way -- though spotty in areas due to the hills.

But yes.. K95.5's flip will hurt the most in SE Ohio.. My understanding is they have 'always' did well down that way. [Even after WCOL-FM flipped to country in Feb 1994]

I appears Wilks will also be moving the WHOK-FM call letters over to 107.1.

Found this on the FCC website:

I expected that.. since they say K95.5 is "moving" to 107.1. I am guessing that 107.1 will take the identity as K107.1 :p .. Then again they could take a play from the CD102 playbook and be "K95.5 @ 107.1" LOL [Just kidding on that last part]

Does anyone know if 95.5 still has a translator?

Yes -- 95.5 is translated on 94.1 in Columbus (The translator was at 102.3 until 102.5 moved closer to Columbus and started to cause interference to the translator so Wilks requested to move it to 94.1).

It looks like 95.5 will be called 95.5 The Zone. Wilks has registered the domain www.955thezone.com and the new call letters are going to be WZOH.

If you say it quickly WZOH sounds a lot like WTOH.  Reminds me of years ago when WNCI sued then-new WSNY saying its calls sounded too similar to WNCI.

Also, I note that as we lose LOH as we add ZOH to TOH,   L, Z, T.  Hmm, now why does that ring a bell?
