Does anyone know if 95.5 still has a translator?

Yes -- 95.5 is translated on 94.1 in Columbus (The translator was at 102.3 until 102.5 moved closer to Columbus and started to cause interference to the translator so Wilks requested to move it to 94.1).

Thanks. Normally I would know something like that but since I don't listen to Country...

Speaking of Country, 2 more days until we have one less Country station in Columbus! YEE HAW!

It looks like 95.5 will be called 95.5 The Zone. Wilks has registered the domain www.955thezone.com and the new call letters are going to be WZOH.

If you say it quickly WZOH sounds a lot like WTOH. Reminds me of years ago when WNCI sued then-new WSNY saying its calls sounded too similar to WNCI.

Also, I note that as we lose LOH as we add ZOH to TOH, L, Z, T. Hmm, now why does that ring a bell?

And if you add the Z to SNY you get SNOOZY.

I appears Wilks will also be moving the WHOK-FM call letters over to 107.1.

Found this on the FCC website:

A request for WHOK-FM dated 03/28/2013 has been filed
by WILKS LICENSE COMPANY-COLUMBUS LLC.

Our records contain the following address(es) for above requester(s):
REQUESTED CALL SIGN WHOK-FM
LICENSEE/PERMITTEE WILKS LICENSE COMPANY-COLUMBUS LLC
MAILING ADDRESS 6470 E JOHNS CROSSING
CONTINUED ADDRESS SUITE 450
CITY DULUTH STATE GA ZIP 30097-

I expected that.. since they say K95.5 is "moving" to 107.1. I am guessing that 107.1 will take the identity as K107.1 :p .. Then again they could take a play from the CD102 playbook and be "K95.5 @ 107.1" LOL [Just kidding on that last part]

Very good guess! Radio Insight has this to say about the new branding for the 107.1 frequency as
of this Monday April 1, 2013.

95.5 WHOK Columbus Moving To 107.1
March 29, 2013 By Lance Venta

With 95.5 becoming WZOH-FM, the WHOK-FM calls will move to what will officially be branded as “K95 at 107.1."

Also, we can now confirm the new call letters for 95.5 as WZOH-FM.
From the FCC website:

Call Sign WZOH is not available.
A request for WZOH-FM dated 03/28/2013 has been filed

Curious what Mark Bohach thinks of the new sports format over at WZOH-FM? Since his WLOH-AM is
also licensed to Lancaster, Ohio, this may have at least a minor impact on WLOH-AM.
Will the new WZOH-FM steal the Cleveland Indians from WLOH or will it matter if WZOH-FM picks
up the Cleveland Indians at WLOH. More on WLOH sports:
http://www.wloh.net/sportsschedules.html

Also, has anyone else noticed the Columbus Dispatch has yet to mention the two new format changes over at 107.1 and 95.5? A few years ago, they would have been all over a similar story.
Guess local radio is not as important as it was in years past to the C.D and can be dropped with
the downsizing in C.D. staff.

I can't believe they're actually doing that!

All Indians contracts were up for renewal this year. WLOH re-upped for three more years. As far as impact from 95.5 in any regard, not much if any.

Remember that we have similar arrangements with WBNS for OSU and CBJ and these have been very successful for us. We have been a Tribe affiliate for nearly twenty years.

On a personal note, I am saddened by the demise of K95. I was a staffer in the Bill France era and it was the best station I ever worked for. Great people and a well funded operation that was truly fun to work for. And for the record, WHOK FM signed in in 1958. 1320 signed on in 1948.

Thank you, Mark, for clearing up the Indians news. I was wondering if 95.5 were to get the Indians, if that would supercede *both* WBNS and WLOH's carriage, but that seems a moot point until 2017 anyway.

I am guessing the launch is going to be at six? They are still playing country as we speak.

Actually, there was a period of about 6 years that the Dispatch had no local radio tv coverage in the late 60's and early 70's. Sometime in 66 or 67 Danny Flavin wrote his last local column. It wasn't until late 73 or early 74 that Cynthia Robbins began writing about any local coverage again. The media stories of those days were from the wires. Nothing local. The only coverage during those years was by the CJ.

Further, I don't think the Dispatch has ever discussed a radio format change prior to its occurrence, except perhaps in a few cases where the operator publicly announced the change in advance.

Also, I think former Dispatch "man about town" columnist Jack Willey used to include a few mentions of radio format changes.  Willey was actually a guest on 97.1 the morning they flipped the switch to oldies.

Now if they just fix the web streams.. Both 107.1 and 95.5 went to the "ad fill" content and the webstreams did not resume on air feed afterwards...

One if the new IDs on 107.1 is "K95.5@1071".

95.5 "The Game" website is now up but only the station logo is on there now:

http://www.955thegameonline.com/

My guess that 107.1 was going to change formats from "New Country" to "Classic Country"
last week was correct.
This was because they didn't want to compete directly against against WCOL-FM with it's
great signal. WNKK 107.1 may have been use as a 'flanker' for K95.5 but no need to
do that any more with the Classic Country format now on 107.1.

Now, will this help out WCOL-FM a little bit in the ratings? Maybe enough to keep WCOL-FM
#1 in the ratings for a least few more months?

I still can't believe I guessed the K955@1071 right =( brings back memories of CD101 @ 102.5. They really should just have went with K107.1

Overnight I was listening to 107.1 and they had already switched (around 12mid) to the new format and they had K95.5 jingles in rotation which sounded weird listening to 107.1.

Your guess about Classic Country was a good call... With a rim shot signal it makes sense not to try and compete against WCOL [but offer something else not in the market].. My guess the previous Wink format was there to allow Wilks to shave as much from WCOL as possible with K95.5 previously doing classic country at one point.

Either K107.1 or 107.1 The Hawk would've been better than K95 @ 107.1

Disappointing about the website. They knew this change was taking place. They had time to put SOMETHING together. Heck the new FM sports station in Cincinnati, 100.3 FM, had a website as soon as it became a sports station.

Yeah talk about weak. I thought it was stupid when CD101 persisted for so long as CD101 @102.5. Never thought some other station would do something as equally lame but leave it to Wilks.

Aww, come on. Your post about that was the same day as Radio Insight's. ;) Just kidding!

What makes it even weirder is that on the website the KS95 logo is big while the @107.1 is so small in comparison that it's easy to miss.

Going from New Country to the mainstream format K95 had for the last year or two would have been jarring enough for 107.1 listeners, but going from hot country to Waylon, Dolly and John Denver must be incredibly jarring. Many no doubt think it's an April Fools joke.
