"CBS" Sports Radio to stay on 98.5?

Anyone know if Beasley will stay an affiliate? Or are we going to see musical chairs with affiliations with ESPN Radio and NBC Sports Radio between The WEEIs and 'BZ-FM? I could see Entercom replace ESPN radio on 'EEI AM with CBS Sports Radio 24-7 for instance.

Entercom will now own a sports network so why source programming from a 3rd party? (barring the national football and college packages)

Ent needs 850 to do spillover sports including things like the World Series from ESPN.Since CBS is a part of this deal, I could see why they might want to put it on 850.Where does ESPN go other than occasional slots on 98.5 or some AM outlet.. Then we consider Fox Sports Radio which is tied to iHeart.Do they put that on 1200 or even overnight etc on 680?
Does someone buy 1430 and put ESPN etc there?

The DOJ pretty much had the final say on what Entercom's divesting in Boston, and that included the sports rights and affiliations that went along with 98.5 The Sports Hub. Therefore, there will not be any "musical chairs" happening with the sports network affiliates in Boston.

Well, beyond that then does anyone expect Beasley to make what changes they can - shifting talent around, clearing more or even a little less of CBS Sports Network in Boston (ie: perhaps cutting Adam Jones off at 10pm and clearing all 4 hours of "Farrell on The Bench" or extending Jones to Midnight, more CBS/Syndicated Sports on the weekend cutting back the local talent?),etc.?

...and anyone have any idea where they might place the sports overlap when Bruins and Celts play on the same night?

Curious as to where the spill over sports will go for Beasley's 98.5 The Sports Hub--Alt 92.9, doubt it; Hot 96.9, nope; 102.5 WKLB, possible; 105.7 WROR, most likely I'd say. 1330/106.1 would be too small of a signal, I would think.

92.9 is such an afterthought at this point, it would be a decent spot for sports overflow. I agree with you that it seems unlikely Beasley would shift the overflow to Hot 96.9 or 1330/106.1. Seems like, unless it's football, shifting the overflow to 102.5 or 105.7 would be suicide.

Talent and/or programming changes are more likely to happen, but we'll have to wait and see what happens once Beasley begins operating 98.5 The Sports Hub.

Here in Philly, Beasley got 610 WIP-AM a couple of years ago in the CBS swap. They took it from CBS Sports Radio (it had formerly been the AM sports station that migrated to FM like WEEI) to ESPN Radio. When Beasley bought GM, they got WPEN-FM, the 1st FM sports talk station in Philly that caused WIP to go to FM (Entercom is keeping WIP-FM). WBZ-FM is going from being a sister station of WIP-FM to WPEN-FM here in Philly. Beasley uses WMMR here for Flyers games when the 76ers are playing at the same time.

Doesn't ESPN have a better sports "brand?" I mean, when I hear "ESPN," I immediately think "sports." I don't think the same for CBS.

Yes, it does, but it costs more to carry, and it seems highly unlikely that Entercom will let ESPN leave 850 without a fight.

I do wonder the fate of "CBS" Sports Radio in the market both short and long term. I would assume that part of the deal includes locking in the affiliation for a period of time in some form.

What does Beasley do for overnight (12mid-6am) for their WPEN-FM in Philly?

What happen when Beasley took over the other 5 stations they owned in Boston?

Someone was waiting for the takeover, predicting new sweepers, jingles, talent, format changes.

Beasley bough 5 successful station, and wanted them to stay that way and changed (almost) nothing.

I agree. I'm not expecting big changes at 98.5. From my perspective, Beasley is an old-fashioned family radio company. You won't see a lot of program development there. They're all about buying a stock car, and racing it for profit. They won't be repainting it or changing the engine.

As long as CBS sports radio stays I'll be happy...now if they would clear all 4 hours of Farrell...but got a feeling Adam Jones is going to keep his slot intact. I enjoy listing to the weekend overnights from CBS.

Funny to think the owners of the network won't be able to clear their network on their own stations...but then FAN NYC clears very little of CBSSN and it's a CBS station! (But they do have an affiliate in the area)
