CC to Nationalize Los Angeles and top 50 markets

This has already begun and according to credible sources will be completed in 18 months.

Even very successful heritage stations in top 50 will be voice tracked or syndicated in ALL dayparts. Once this begins look for Bains/CC to sell at below $5 basically turning into "Penny Stocks" just like Cumulus and Citadel.

There is no such thing as publicly traded "Bains(sic)/CC" stock. Clear Channel is a privately held company; Bain Capital is one of the investors.

Wow, I'm sure the CC employees reading this post will really feel good to hear this latest rumor. Like they haven't had enough bad news. I have friends at more than a few CC Stations and I know that the stress of the layoffs and reading stories and even hearing the rumors every day has taken its toll on them. Will this crap ever stop? Why does a whole industry have to automate to survive? Even worse, why post these rumors? It just heaps more stress on them... By the way, many stations in the Top 50 are AFTRA and I'm thinking that they won't just roll over and give in to CC's whims. Why don't they just sell to a BROADCASTER that knows how to run properties without firing everyone? Most of these stations are profitable and on their own wouldn't need to fire the whole staff to survive. Many could be live 24/7 if they weren't forced to pay off the companies’ debt and the huge management salaries.

You're correct. My mistake. I should have said soon CC will be worth equivalent to Penny Stocks

Lot of "ifs" there my friend. But you're right there are many stressed out people in CC and elsewhere. I'll try and hold at bay what i hear.

I'm inclined to believe that nothing can be much more stressful than actually working for them (having done so, I can agree with myself on this point). :) At this point, anybody who is still employed in the company on the station level who isn't actively job searching is simply not paying attention.

Agreed. But the trouble is with the rumors, the truth is already out there. We've seen what's happened already, there's no taking it back. It's gotten to be something we expect from Clear Channel and other conglomerates now. Miserable as it is.

I'm a natural optimist, so I've been trying to find something good to come of all this. I've come across two potential silver linings.

a). If this doesn't galvanize hundreds of thousands of industry people (past and present) to organize and begin a grassroots movement to demand reregulation and deconsolidation, nothing will.

b). Less programming, fewer consultants. They're on board all day, every thread, telling us how great these changes are for radio. Soon, someone at the top is going to look around and say, "With national syndication, there's no reason to keep these bloodsuckers on the payroll." Then we can watch those guys' paychecks dry up like they've snickered and crowed about us losing ours. They may well have consulted the business into the ground, and their usefulness has been debatable at the station level for a very long, long time. The fat-laden buffet may be coming to an end for them. I wonder if they'll continue to crow on the boards once their own jobs have become obsolete?

I was told in an email by a CC PD (yesterday Jan 25) that if I hadn't left the company he was pretty sure he could've gotten me a national syndication deal for their rock properties. So I think this may be a reality. A horrible reality.

"CCMO" is publicly--though very lightly-traded. Part of the privatization deal was the issuance of this stock.

Back to the topic---merging the various rumors, it would be logical for CC to use available large market talent to provide in-house syndicated programing to the remaining medium market stations they own. Don't forget they own Premiere and a west-coast up-link. The catch is that Premiere only has use of 1/2 of a transponder, presently filled with dual feeds for the remaining Starguide users and the new XDS users.

Once the XDS receivers are fully rolled out into the field, look for some long form content to flow from large markets across the nation to smaller CC clusters.

Love syndicated radio! Doing a show for 300 markets live is quite the rush! Would love to my syndicated radio show for CC, Westwood One, ABC.
