CC to operate 93.3 K227BH with more power and closer to downtown SA

I see. So they turned it off yesterday when they got the license. I expect the new station will be up soon?

Who wants to bet it's WOAI-FM? :p

Yes, I also beleive it will be WOAI radio.
WOAI radio now on FM!

Unless there is a chance it will be sold.
What are the chances CC will sell K227BH on 93.3?

None. I think the owners are either LMAing it out to CC or else selling it to them. Don't think CC can or will sell it.

Did find it a bit odd that the station didn't tell any of it's previous Radio Cristiana listeners to go switch to 98.9 before it signed off. You'd think the previous operator would want to keep as many listeners as they could.

Perhaps a simulcast of 92.5 or CC brings Evolution to SA. But I don't WOAI will end up on 93.3 long term.

93.3 was carrying Paulino Bernal's format. IF 98.9 was doing the same it's basically an all-satellite format. Everyone hears the same thing. Announcing the change in SA would just confuse the listeners up and down the network.

Yeah 98.9 was a match of 93.3. But that doesn't mean 93.3 can't break from the simulcast and air a loop on a CD player telling people to switch for a day or so. Doubt they'd break any serious rules if they did so for just that long.

Unless they had Clear Channel or another station do it for them and translate that station for a day, that's a blatant violation of FCC rules. Translators aren't allowed to originate their own programming unless they translate an AM daytimer, in which case they can originate programming after the daytimer signs off.

Now, whether or not the FCC would find out is anyone's guess. However, it would be an extremely serious violation if they got caught!

Makes sense. I just posted that after a couple translators here seemed to originate programming after several years.
If another did it for a day and got caught, I'd be surprised especially if the aforementioned illegal translators were allowed to continue! But smart move on 93.3's part for not doing so.

He could have done it. He could have said "For all our listeners in the San Antonio area we will no longer be broadcasting on 93.3 FM after so and so date. We will only be on 98.9 FM from now on." He is always talking about what goes on in different cities that he is in. If you tune in you'll hear him talking about a revival going on in Katy this Friday or one in Laredo on Saturday. His listeners know he has a network of stations.

My question now is with 98.9 having a little less then a rimshot in San Antonio will Bernal continue to lease it from Lopez? Word is Lopez charges him an arm and a leg for those combos. Either Bernal was behind on payments or having trouble paying Lopez that he ended up cutting a deal with CC instead or Lopez has other plans down the road for 98.9. I can't see him commanding what he did now that the translator won't be simulating 98.9 FM. Bernal would be better off leasing one of Jerry Benavides San Antonio stations instead. According to Jerry, everything he has is either for sale or for lease if the price is right.

Not that Bernal would ever go through all the trouble of setting up a flash player or some sort of automation to break into his satellite audio at the translator site to air a message saying he would no longer be on 93.3 FM anymore (and yes...he was operating K227BH illegally by feeding it off satellite instead of using an off the air receiver) but there is a way he could have done it without breaking FCC rules. Translators are allowed to originate audio for up to 30 seconds each hour (or two segments of 15 seconds each hour) to solicit and acknowledge funds used to maintain the translator station. Bernal could have made a 30 second announcement stating something like this "Thank you for listening to La Radio Cristiana Network and for your donations to keep this translator on the air with our programming for many years. Effective on so and so date we will no longer be broadcasting on this translator on 93.3 FM but we thank you for your donations that have helped us keep that translator going throughout the years. We will now be on 98.9 FM only. Thank you for supporting our radio ministry." Or something similar like that. (I'm definitely no scrip writer) lol

I hope WOAI comes back to FM! I want to listen to Rush and Hannity on my Broken Panasonic Walkman (it's stuck on FM DX) Now if KTSA would air Mark Levin on FM!
