Here is some more info on the changes in store for WOSU-FM and the tOSU Classical Music radio network:

http://www.portsmouth-dailytimes.co...ng-to-all-NPR-station?instance=home_news_lead

Via the article:

"On Jan. 6, WOSU 89.7 FM will switch from a
service offering classical music and news to become central Ohio’s only all-day NPR news station on FM radio."

Looks like the dust will settle on or shortly after Jan 6, 2011.

I'd look for a simulcast between 101.1 and 89.7 between Wednesday and Jan. 6.

They tell me, there will be a soft launch of Classical 101 at 101.1 FM tomorrow.

It's now official.... Email from tOSU:

"The announcement just came through. The Classical 101 transaction is now complete. WOSU will premiere Classical 101 at 6 am tomorrow morning with a message from OSU’s President Gee and then it’s on to 24-hour classical music!"

101.1 looks to be off the air this evening... must be equipment move time.

Hearing the loop at 9pm here in NE Columbus on 101.1 Mhz

It was nothing but static and WNCO bleed over in Powell around 7:30pm. Maybe they switched out whatever they need to move to 102.5.

Highly possible they killed the exciter so they could pull the processing out so that can be hauled off to 102.5's site near Carrol... Since the sale is now official, Fun with Radio Inc has to hand over the keys to Ohio State so whatever is theirs is likely removed today. I would also think that Ohio State's team was on site today to setup whatever STL is needed to get the Classical programming from Olentangy down to Grove City.

Makes sense to me. How long does it take to get between the two sites, and is 102.5's processing better yet? Are their listeners still griping about it on FB? :D

No gripes on Cd101's page about their audio .. but who knows how much they "remove"

101.1 is off air again.. shortly after midnight the loop cut out.. with dead air, then loop, then dead air, then a alternative-y sounding song, then dead air and now the carrier is gone (static) so they must be doing further work.

I would gust-a-mate it's about a 30 minute drive between sites (I have never personally drove from Point A to B) likely a little more with the snow.

Well, Classical 101 will start up at 6 AM, so they have about 5 hours. :D

I wonder if they'll have a dedicated Classical 101 stream at launch, or if they'll repurpose the existing classical stream. For that matter, I wonder if they'll put Classical 101 on WOSU-FM/89.7's classical HD subchannel.

Interesting questions... My guess is that what is currently the HD-2 24/7Classical feed will become 101.1's primary feed... since they have stated that even at launch 101.1 will be 24/7 classical we know that 89.7 will still be hybrid classical/NPR until Jan 6th when it meets up with AM 820 for 24/7 NPR, I would think that the programming on the HD-2 stream would be what is fed to 101.1

My only odd concern (and this may be a silly one or likely not to happen) is dropping carrier.. with the cold weather we've had.. could the antenna for 101.1 "freeze" with no RF going through it.

Also as a side note.. The web guys at CD101 @ 102.5 still got some work to do on their website.. There are still way to many 'refs' to 101.1 FM on their website.. including their web stream player that has no mention of 102.5 on it.

The 1 AM legal on the Classical 24/7 stream was the standard WOSU, HD1 and HD2 Columbus (I believe they are simulcasting the overnight classical music on 89.7's primary) and the various stations rebroadcasting WOSU. No mention of WOSA, though that probably won't show up until 6.

That tells me that they probably will simulcast WOSA on WOSU's HD2, and that makes sense. Many new classical startups with signal issues have done the same, though 101.1 is a better signal than most of those stations, and they're supplementing it with Marion. And it'll be a lot easier to just keep one 24/7 classical signal, using "Classical 101".

Heh...maybe they'll come out of the box at 6 (I will not be awake) and call themselves "Classical CD101 @ 101.1". ;)

And speaking of which:

The sale contract requires them to stop using "101" and "101.1" now that the sale has closed, but I bet they will still use "CD101 @ 102.5" on the air as long as tOSU lets them get away with it. Again, no real listener overlap worries due to the format.

But you're right...way too many "CD101" references are still on the website, even without the "102-five" logo nearby. And not even their ID loop is being heard on 101.1 now.

Overnight, "CD101 @ 102.5" is still using that branding, but the 2 AM legal ID now says "102.5 FM, WWCD Baltimore, Ohio/Columbus".

One problem. The call letters are still WCVZ... listed as such in the FCC database. BIG TIME FAIL.

The "Classical" webstream music wise is matching what I am hearing on 101.1 FM so your right on that one.

There was oddly no legal ID on 101.1 at 6am, the broadcast was slient (when 101.1 FM returned to the air) and then Dr Gee's message then Boyce Lancaster (and I think he said the rest of the Classical staff) were in the studio with him as they signed on with their first piece of music.

They are calling themselves "Classical 101"

Station is using the Classical 101 WOSA Grove City, station ID now as well

Audio of WOSA "Classical 101's" opening is here, along with a picture of the celebration:

Guess who wins the "pulled off the switch professionally" title? :D

I would not be surprised that it's just a case of the FCC online database lagging behind reality. It's happened before. For one, the Call Sign Query for WOSA is not attached to the former WWCD facility yet, and we know that moved over with the closing of the 101.1 sale.

I wonder if "CD101 @ 102.5" will EVER go away as branding?

I ask this because somewhere on their FB page, an engineer for the station says they are "not changing" their name. Maybe they got tOSU to ignore that provision in the sale agreement to dump 101/101.1 in the branding, arguing (as I've suggested here) that there's very little overlap between the two stations' audiences? That's just a guess on my part.

If they do change to "CD102.5" at some point, maybe they are waiting until after the Andyman-a-thon. I can see where they'd want to hang onto "CD101" for that reason.
