WCDR to cease programming on Tuesday September 20th 2011

Apperently not quite yet .. as of 3:00 am on 09/21/11; WCDR-FM, WOHC and W202CC were still cranking out WCDR's automation of music/weather/news.

AS of this morning, all of the morning WCDR show hosts are gone except for their local news person.

EMF has applied for a MAIN STUDIO WAIVER with the FCC and it hasn't been approved yet.

yeah my guess is they will keep running WCDR automation until the MSW is approved.

...at which point the assimilation into the Borg Collective, erm, I mean K-Love network is complete. :p

Still running the usual automation today. Either it's the MSW, or some of the teaching programs had 90 day out clauses in the contracts that need to be run out first.

Os of today, Monday October 17, 2011, Educational Media Foundation is now the owner WCDR-FM and Network of stations (88.3 in Columbus).

From the www.cedarville.edu site:

CDR Radio Network Sold
90.3 WCDR

The sale of the CDR Radio Network was finalized on October 17, 2011. The following provides information on the sale and links to the many fine programs that were previously available on air.

Cedarville University chapel streaming
Yellow Jacket Sports athletic event streaming

Thank you for being a faithful partner in the CDR Radio Network, a community supported radio ministry of Cedarville University.

As announced in October 2010, the Cedarville University Board of Trustees voted to divest ownership of the radio ministry due to the downturn in community support over the last decade, and the high cost of maintaining the broadcasting infrastructure. This difficult decision was made only after considerable discussion and prayer.

The CDR Radio Network of stations has been sold to the Educational Media Foundation, operators of two Christian radio formats, K-LOVE and Air1. We invite you to enjoy the new Christian format.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we wish to express our sincere appreciation for your faithful prayers and involvement during our years of broadcast ministry.

The sale was approved by the FCC on 09/02/11.. Apperently 10/17/11 was the closing from the sounds of the page at Cedarville.edu.. (of course the 17th could been when they finally decided 'here EMF you can have the keys.. we're tired of waiting on the MSW to clear')

Checking 88.3 within sight of the Channel 6 tower I am hearing nothing but 'static' with a little drift in from WOAR South Vienna. 90.1 WOHC Chillicothe, OH which I can normally hear fairly well in my car is nothing but static...

so it appears Cedarville just decided to pull the plug and leave the stations dark until EMF decides to program them (which will happen as soon as the MSW is approved for the stations full power stations (WCDR, WOHC, WOHP).

I was listening to their 'webstream' earler this evening (had a link saved in my player) and it appears they killed it shortly after 8:30 pm monday evening mid song. (the mp3 stream they had is also no longer there).

I can say that 88.3 is planned to be the spanish Christian format I mentioned preivously in this thread (that EMF airs on some of their unused stations) based on FCC documents.

Was listening to the local WCDR morning show yesterday morning and there was never a mention this would be their last day on the air.
In fact, never a mention that the station was sold over the last few weeks on the show.

Also, their translator on 88.3 in Columbus signed off the air sometime yesterday. They turned off their transmitter for 88.3.
Curious is WCDR is also off the air in Dayton.

WCDR is on with K-Love programming.

They were issued a MAIN STUDIO WAIVER today. This may explain the delay of K-LOVE programming of the frequency until today.

Last night I am pretty sure (not 100% positive) but I think WCDR was also dark.. I normally can get traces of 90.3's signal in the western edges of Franklin County/Madison County and was not last night.. Nor was I getting 88.3 near the ch6 tower and not picking up 90.1 WOHC at all which I usually do.

Your right, there was really no mention on air. They kinda wanted to just let it 'fade away'... like I said earler they pulled the webstream about 9pm last night mid song. (prior to that there was even 'updated weather' on there).

My guess is Cedarville pulled the plug pending the MSW approved (which happened to be official on 10/18/11)... soon as EMF got that in hands they went to the transmitter sites and fired up the 'KLove in a box" feeding the transmitter.

W202CC Translator (88.3 FM) columbus will re-broadcast a Spanish Christian format that LMAs a few of EMF's "extra" signals.. No reason to go against the established WUFM and WCVO already established in the Columbus market so they are doing something different specifically in Columbus.. The rest of the licenses will be KLove or Air1 when everything settles.

Email from EMF's Sarah Outman on the future and pending plans for 88.3. Apparently they have decided not to rebroadcast Spanish Christian format
on 88.3.

Her EMAIL TO ME:

Artie,

Every letter is important to us. I apologize for the delay in responding to you. We've received a high volume of email from our listeners recently and are catching up as quickly as possible.

It is wonderful to know you're listening to 88.3 FM in Columbus, Ohio! This translator is a new acquisition for our ministry, so it is still in the works on whether it will rebroadcast K-LOVE or Air1. Either way, we are hoping to be on 88.3 FM sometime in November.

If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

Intresting... Guess they took it dark unsure what to do with it .. The FCC documents is what lead me to believe it would air the spanish format of KGCL.. Guess they are still trying to figure what is best for W202CC (88.3) and WOHC (90.1) as both are still dark as of today.

We're coming up on a week since the CDR Network went dark. 88.3 and 90.1 are still dark. Interesting with 88.3 W202CC dark, WOAR South Vienna is reaching Columbus west side quite nicely at least in my car.

The reason the stations are dark is because prior to EMF taking over, CDR Network fed most of their stations via satellite (a few of the translators were fed from the Full Power FMs) and EMF has to go to each translator and full power site and install equip to feed whatever format they choose for each of the stations. with 3 Full power FMs and about a dozen translator sites.. Takes some time to get all the stuff in place.

This is the email I received today on the status of these stations. It looks like 88.3 and 90.1 will be back on next week??

Artie,

Here’s the information I know. From Monday – Friday last week, the following signals came on the air as K-LOVE:

90.3 FM (WKCD) in Cedarville, OH

94.1 FM in Bellefontaine, OH

98.1 FM in Sidney, OH

103.7 FM in Greenville, OH

88.3 FM (WUKV) in Portsmouth, OH – temporarily on at low power

All other acquired signals should be coming on the air next week, once we’ve completed work on them. I am not privy to the information as to whether they will be K-LOVE or Air1.

Blessings,

Sarah Outman
