Cedric the Entertainer as Who Wants to be a Milionaire Host

I had some misgivings when I heard he'd be the host of Millionaire, after Merideth Viera resigned to get her one-hour daytime talk show ready for next fall. She was a very good host, smart as well as personable, and she won a Daytime Emmy for her hosting.

I don't like Cedric as much. After all, you have to be really smart to answer these questions. And as the host, he doesn't impress me as someone who's really a learned man. I realize as a comedian and actor, he has a character he must portray. I'm also not thrilled with the hat, although again, that's part of his character.

So over time, he's grown on me. I still am not ready to say he's the ideal replacement. But these days smart quiz shows are at a premium... only Jeopardy and Millionaire. So if he can capture a segment of the audience that might not otherwise watch Millionaire and keep the ratings high enough for renewal, he's fine by me. BTW, I won $16,000 on the show about 5 years ago. Viera was very cordial to me during the breaks.

I've watched a little of the show with Cedric and like you have said, not impressed. Regis and Merideth had a genuine enthusiasm for the contestants that I do not see with Ced.

I never did understand the draw of either Cedric or his former cohort Steve Harvey.

I had to watch him for a short time because a CBS program was about to start and I was afraid to start doing something else and miss the start of the show.

He's absolutely terrible.

Of course I can't watch the show anyway due to that annoying music they play when the contestant answers. And why does it take so long? "Jeopardy" contestants know the answer right away.

It's kind of ironic that Cedric and Steve Harvey are on back-to-back here in Los Angeles (Millionaire just moved to KNBC back on September 2nd). I'm not a big Steve Harvey fan (my wife listens to his radio show almost everyday), and although I enjoy Cedric's work over the years, he's much better as a sidekick than a leading man (see his movies as proof).

Like a lot of you, I was puzzled too when I found out he was named the host of Millionaire...his fellow Kings of Comedy, Steve Harvey and D.L. Hughley, also hosted episodes over the years. Because I work during the time Millionaire airs here locally (and I have Queen Latifah's new show on the DVR at the same time), I've yet to see one of Cedric's episodes...but I am curious to see how he does.

Cedric

Cedric always was a great standup guy, very funny. His appearence doesn't bother me, it's part of his "schtick"; but as a game show host, no thanks.

I'll admit I haven't watched it much but Cedric apparently doesn't wear his hat or at least not as much on Soul Man, so I don't see why it's necessary on Millionaire.

I haven't been able to see Millionaire in several years because when it was on in Memphis it was at bad times or stations that aren't on the cable system in Jackson, TN, and in the last few years it hasn't been on anywhere. I have a new laptop that has better video, so I might try to see it from there.
