CHAM AM Funny 820 new format

Right next door, at 770 kHz, is WTOR Youngstown, NY, just north of Niagara Falls. It is also playing South Asian music aimed at listeners across the lake into Toronto, Hamilton and Southern Ontario.

It's 13,000 watts days. But it signs off at night, due to another 770 in the State of New York that has Class A status on the frequency, WABC. Who would guess there'd be two stations on 770 in New York State? I guess Youngstown is far enough from Lodi NJ, site of WABC's transmitter.

It sounds like Big 820 is trying their best to be a Punjabi radio station.
Big 820 is now listed with the other stations in the app, but still no website for it. (yet?)

The real question is, is this a legal radio station?
I don't think 820 is licenced to be a multicultural radio station.
I wonder what the CRTC thinks of this station?
1220 CHSC lost their broadcast licence for stepping away from their format to run Radio Uno evenings, overnight and week ends without a proper multicultural broadcast licence.

I've got to think all of the i's were dotted and t's were crossed with the CRTC.

I am sorry but I just have to ask: Has this station actually earned any rate of return on the original construction costs?
That would be a question for the owners, Birach. The brokered station has been through many formats over the years, hopefully getting paid. Just going from memory;

Arabic music/talk
Conservative Talk
Brokered (recall The Greaseman and Brother Stair on the schedule, the variety!)
Business Talk
Oldies
Spanish Language Oldies
Regional Mexican (which it still is today as La Jefe)

They've been sitting on an application to boost power from 5Kw to 50Kw, but I don't see that ever happening.

Why would you say that? The format change may have happened after the sale, without CRTC permission.
It does happen.
Remember, 1220 CHSC lost their broadcast licence for being Radio Uno Italian radio without considering that their licence is not a multicultural licence.
(the new 1220 AM in St. Catharines is run under new call letters and a new owner as a classic hits format)
And then there's
Z103, a station that is licenced to serve Orangeville, but yet, for as long as they could get away with it, they kept identifying themselves as a Toronto radio station.
CRTC forced them to properly say "This is CIDC FM ORANGEVILLE, Z 103five"
So, there are Radio stations out there that just might be trying things first and letting the CRTC ask questions later...

You would probably know better than I.
