'Champ' radio to swap from rock to sports talk

I know this will never happen because you have their contract, but I'd love to hear you guys tear UVM a new one. They're a crappy landlord to the Lake Monsters (while they spent money on track and field), and they ignore most BHS kids while handing every Rice kid a scholarship.

Sports talk isn't 1 or 2 with this 27 year old male...I find the Boston stations obnoxious and insulting to my intelligence.

Uh... again, I reiterate, when it's #1 25-54, it actually IS #1 WITH 27 YEAR OLDS. Simple math Will... 27 is between 25 and 54. Again, when you say you make things clear, you need to realize you don't. This is the kind of thing that makes you sound kinda smart to some who don't read and comprehend well, but certainly not too bright to people who just don't skim.

Just because YOU don't like it, doesn't mean MOST OTHERS don't. Will, I hate to break this to you, but the world, radio and otherwise, doesn't revolve around you and your feelings on issues.

And remember that great 2nd rock station in the city you reside? WBZN? How awesome were they? Now they're not the 2nd 'timeless rock' station... they're now the #2 male station in Boston. Not doing rock. Beating rock. With sports.

Warrants mentioning... by me.... since you didn't.

And thanks for the compliment. It wasn't unnoticed. I saw it as my head was spinning from the other silliness.

And I'll rip who I need to rip, when they need ripping.

Sorry BreakDancer, but you're making an assertion that isn't necessarily accurate.

A station that is #1 in a demographic as wide as 25 to 54 isn't necessarily #1 with 27 year olds.

That's why ratings services show other demographic breakouts that are narrower in scope, you can piece if 25 to 34 if you want, and it may show the station in question as #1, or it may show it as #8 in a more specific demographic. Making a blanket statement that success in a very wide demo target like 25 to 54 means it is also the most-listened-to station for 27 year olds is hugely naive, and often very inaccurate, depending on the station and the market. I'm surprised you'd put yourself out on the limb like this with such an elementary and easily disproved-in-many-cases argument.

I can't believe you'd take it literally.

But I get a feeling that from the 25-34, or 25-54 range, when they have a #1 or #2 rating, that a lot of them are actually 27. I doubt the demo just SKIPS that specific age, en route to being #1 or #2. I mean, you're right... it's POSSSSSSSSSIBLE, but if you shot a pig out of a cannon, it's then possible for "pigs to fly" at least a little bit, eh?

And my bad on the Boston calls... but the fact remains that most 25-40 year olds don't want to hear "timeless" (more like TIRED), classic rock. I'd rather hear Colin Cowherd than Smoke On The Water for an umpteenth millionth time. And if I want to hear that.... well I have my iPod for it, and can mix the rock properly for my demo... something the industry hasn't figured out to do for men, as they have for women.

Yes, I took you literally.

And this is more than just a "pigs fly" scenario, it may actually be the general rule rather than the exception. Check out, for instance, any major market ratings where an all-news station like, let's say, WBZ-AM in Boston is very highly rated when the demographic target is very wide, such as 25-54....but when a 25-34 breakout is done, the station plummets, because the station is loaded with old-timers who listen, and not many kids.

(raises hand) I've listened to WBZ more lately...they don't have a 5-6 minute stopset at :13 like every music station in town, and it's the only station without music that talks to people with my IQ.

I'll hold my tongue, for once. :-*

Listening to Rob and Rich today too...this show has improved greatly in the past month. It's thoughtful and not inflammatory. This show suits Rich's talents, and Rob's got some good ideas too.
