Longtime Calif. radio employee, 70, killed in lunchtime shooting
According to loved ones, Charles Starzynski, 70, was at Sutter Lawn Tennis Club on Thursday for his regular game of pinochle and lunch with friends.
In the Obit Starzynski was with Cap Radio since 1979 in various roles as announcer, reporter, producer and PD for the Sac State owned station.
Starzynski joined CapRadio in 1979 as its classical music announcer. Over the next two decades, he worked as a reporter, producer and eventually program director.
“As a CapRadio Board member, former Councilmember, & worried citizen, my heart breaks for Charles & his family,” former Sacramento Councilmember Steve Hansen wrote on Twitter. “Charles deserved so much better. This was a heinous act of violence. Gun violence has exploded this year & the city needs to do more to stop it.”

Starzynski, 70, worked at Capital Public Radio from 1979 to 1998. He was shot and killed during a robbery Thursday.
