Charlie Kirk Conservative and close ally of Donald Trump shot dead at 31

Reminder that Kirk was never elected to anything in any state or anywhere. The comparison might be to Alan Berg.
Or Robert Kennedy or Martin Luther King. A "Public Figure" does not have to be elected.

To me, the assassination of the head of United Health Care was equally distressing and indicates a belief that a person "you disagree with" can be killed just because you are of differing opinions.

That's a good comparison, and at one point, it seemed the killer may have been inspired by that.

Yet that killer became a hero to some, and so far, that hasn't happened with this one.

Robert Kennedy (Sr.) was a U.S. Senator from New York at the time he was assassinated, elected to that seat in 1964.

Trivia: After RFK's death, the remainder of his Senate term was filled by Charles Goodell, the father of current NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

This death of this demagogue is no more important than ANY of the 46,000+ Americans who die from our gun obsession each year.

This commentary sums his impact well;

Charlie Kirk’s Legacy Deserves No Mourning

Your comment and the commentary piece are very troubling on many levels. Charlie Kirk had the audacity to express his faith and beliefs in the public domain which is a basic right in our constitution. He did not attack or hurt anybody.

There are definitely comments on places like Instagram celebrating Charlie Kirk's death though.

The commentary was also an example of someone expressing their first amendment right. In fact people in radio are being fired over it:

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.
Love your neighbor as yourself.

Ask yourself are we following these basic commandments of a civil society? Let’s stop justifying vitriol. There is absolutely no comparison between what Charlie was doing and the profanity in the post from the person you are referring to..

You are correct that radio personality was entitled to say whatever he said however moronic it may have been. However, his employer also had the right to fire him if his actions violated his employment agreement or damaged the reputation of the station.

Your failure to differentiate a political assassination from crime and domestic abuse is astounding and deeply troubling.

I'd be deeply concerned, whether it was Kirk or had been Ocasio-Cortés. You are equating, by your statement, the shooting of Lincoln or JFK with gang violence.
"Your failure to differentiate a political assassination from crime and domestic abuse is astounding and deeply troubling. "
I'll try to be more clear. Characters like this are financed and and enriched by reactionary figures and organizations with agendas neatly camouflaged in socio/political causes."

The reason we have over 46,000 gun deaths each year (far more than any other nation that is not at war) is simply due to the gun manufacturing industry perverting the Second Amendment of our Constitution to prevent the kind of common-sense restrictions on even the most lethal para-military assault weapons.
For this radio talk shows over the 30+ years have had a major role in feeding distorted opinions and outright lies about such restrictions to the extent that Federal government won't even formally gather information on gun related deaths.

The reason something as mentally damaged and corrupt as Donald Trump could ascend to the presidency, is due largely to an ill-informed population, propagandized by talk media.
Not since the late-sixties have we been as torn apart as a nations as today. Back then we still had an aggressive media and a Congress willing to stand up against a scoundrel president.

Types like Limbaugh may not have been as openly bigoted as Pyne, Grant, etc. But covering lies with a veneer of Midwestern "nice" doesn't change the deleterious effect on the populace. It does make the dregs of our society, Kirk & Trump included, richer and more powerful.

Try not to get too 'disturbed" by reality. Things are likely to get much worse.

What people are being fired for is the celebration of the assassination of a person with differing beliefs. This is a degree of "freedom of speech" that most people on either side of the political spectrum condemn... not because it limits free speech but because it approves of and congratulates murderers.

Two-thirds of gun deaths in the U.S. are suicides. Were guns not available to persons intent on killing themselves, they would find other methods, ranging from drugs to driving off a bridge.

That is your opinion, and not one shared by enough Americans to get him elected, twice.

One thing is to state differences in opinion on topics such as border control. It is totally different to just decide anyone who does not agree with you is "damaged and corrupt".

Ill-informed about what? I believe that your opinion of "well informed" depends on the news sources they use. MSNBC = Well Informed. Fox News = Ill informed.

Yet Limbaugh (finally we got to a radio subject) literally "saved AM radio" for several decades and was the most popular talk host on radio. Nobody was preventing a more progressive or liberal voice from succeeding; in fact, supported by the biggest station owners, there was an attempt to create a liberal talk network (it failed).

In your opinion. Mine is just the opposite.

Readily available firearms make it easy and supposedly, painless and fast. The gun violence rate is likely far worse than even in the dictatorships and hell-holes you once worked in and wisely left.

Alright, maybe these folks will make the point:
This was only one of many such articles and commentaries.
Perhaps these people are biased as well:

"...Limbaugh (finally we got to a radio subject) literally "saved AM radio"...."
it would have been better if those facilities had gone dark, rather than the damage they contributed to.
"Liberal" talk failed on commercial radio due to two factors (IMO):
1) It used the right-wing model of focusing on the host and it's opinions. A more educated audience prefers the issues over diatribes. IOW: a bad fit for the room.
2) Frequent interruptions by commercials. this was bound to be damaging when NPR & PBS do all this so much better.

"In your opinion. Mine is just the opposite."
Here, i sincerely hope you are right. The alternative is a nightmare.
I yield to you. I'm done on this.

This has nothing to do with radio. No comment.
