Charlie O'Donnel of Wheel of Fortune, interviewed.

Charlie O'Donnel (Wheel of Fortune) was interviewed yesterday for Wednesday's Broadcast Pioneers luncheon saluting WIBG and the original staff. Charlie's obligations in L. A. didn't prevent his from being there in voice. Click the link below for a sneak preview and Part 1 of this insightful interview with a true broadcast legend. Growing up in Philadelphia, Charlie talks about his humble beginnings at WHAT, WRCV, WIBG and then to WFIL TV as Dick Clarke's side kick on American Bandstand, then moving to LA when AB went west. He also did radio on such station as KRLA in Los Angeles and then became the premier game show announcer for such shows, to name a few, Tic Tac Dough, The Jokers Wild, The Gong show, and Wheel of Fortune where he has been for 28 years. Also does most of the major awards shows.

Charlie O'Donnell Interview

Here's more about the Philadelphia Broadcast Pioneers luncheon.

I remember Charlie O'Donnell as a DJ on Top 40 KRLA in the mid 60s - as I remember, he called it "The Charlie O Show." He was also a news anchor at KCOP 13 in Los Angeles in the 1980s.

Charlie O'Donnel was part of a great DJ lineup at KRLA that included Bob Eubanks, Casey Kasem, Dick Biondi, & Bob Hudson among others.
