Chattanooga to swap frequencies CHR Kiss 103.7 and Rock 105.5

IIRC WKXJ was once at 97.3 then did a simulcast at 98.1 and 103.7 - later 98.1 became adult hits The Lake.

Wikipedia doesn’t mention 97.3 being WKXJ but I am almost certain it was there at one time and for a while at 98.1 - all CHR format. I could be wrong. If not, maybe that station holds a record for being at the most dial positions. Just some possible useless radio trivia!

WKXJ was on 97.3 from 1990 to 1999 and simulcast on the 99.3 translator. It then swapped with WLOV, moving to 98.1, where it lasted for about eight years.

So WKXJ has been heard on five different frequencies- four if you don’t count the 99.3 translator. Kicks became Kiss but the calls and format stayed the same. I lived in Nashville for a while back in 00’s and couldn’t tune ‘em in but drove through Chattanooga a lot.

Cumulus moved Kicks to 98.1 and later swapped it to Clear Channel in 2000 for WNNK and the rest of the former AMFM cluster in Harrisburg. Clear Channel quickly put the Kiss FM branding on WKXJ.

If I remember correctly, the Top-40 format of WKXJ had a brief hiatus as 98.1 had a hot AC format as 98.1 My FM and classic country as “The Legend” before becoming The Lake. Seems like 103.7 moved into the market a couple years later.

Correct. November 2007, Kiss FM transitioned to "The Legend", which lasted just shy of a year before flipping to Hot AC. "98-1 LND", I believe it was.
103.7 moved into the market in 2008 and did AC for about a year at first as "The River". Kiss came back Labor Day 2009.

However, while all of that went on...WDOD ditched AAA for CHR in the spring of 2008 after Kiss left the market, still being called "The Mountain" the first few years. They've been the CHR leader ever since.
