Wow I noticed in the Craig Kilborn edition of the Daily Show this was more of a reflection of
News Mearging with entertainment era AKA the Tabloid era of Cable News way back when FOX News and MSNBC were infants and they were criticized for being Tabloidal like the current HLN.

I may not fit in the Craig Kilborn era of the Daily Show. But I certainly fit in In the Jon Stewart era of the Daily Show. We all know that the era of the Daily Show and that is attack politicians for being hypocrites and attack CNN, MSNBC, Fox, CNBC, Bloomberg and Fox Business for being Propagandists and not real Journalists.

The program has clearly gone a long, long way since its inception with Kilborn behind the desk. In those days, the schtick and schlock were way up with all types of bits (e.g. "Godstuff," and the daily "Final Jeopardy" question with the mother of the then-executive producer of the show, Lizz Winstead, who incidentally also produced Jon Stewart's old MTV show) to try and appeal to the comedy viewer. As opposed to the current incarnation, which is appealing to the news viewer.

Lizz Winstead is still listed as the creator and Producer of The Daily Show as of 2011 in the Stewart era I saw that on the closing credits of the current Daily Show. Also I noticed in the Kilborn edition it is listed that Mad Cow Productions created the show something I don't see in the Stewart edition.
