Chicago Sports Network to air on WJYS 62.2 and 62.3

The new outlet for the Blackhawks, Bulls and White Sox starts Oct. 1, and has made a deal with WJYS for its .2 and .3 subchannels, the latter for times when two teams are playing. The currently 480p channels will convert to HD (specifics unannounced) and drop their shopping channel programming. WJYS has nine subchannels, all of them 480p, as is the main channel, according to RabbitEars.info.

CHSN will also be fed on a pair of WNDU-16 subchannels in South Bend and WSLN-9 subchannels in Rockford. That specific info was on the CHSN website briefly on Sunday and then taken down.

DirecTV will carry CHSN in place of NBC Sports Chicago, which closes up shop on Sept. 30, in the regional sports network's designated markets.

I wonder if Marquee will take a hint and start offering their programming (read: Cubs games) over the air? Naaaaahhhhhhh! 😆

FYI for those outside of northern Illinois: WSLN is actually licensed to Freeport but transmits from the west side of Rockford. It's on RF 9 but PSIP 19.

CHSN's home in Indianapolis will be WHMB/40.2. WHMB/40.1 is the Univision affiliate for central Indiana. I have to ass-u-me that Bulls games will be blacked out due to the Pacers, although White Sox and Blackhawks games shouldn't be.

It's somewhat ironic that Channel 40 is carrying this channel. Back in 1971, The original Channel 40, WURD, made a big deal about putting up a huge antenna (I forget if it was a microwave link or direct UHF) in order to carry White Sox games that aired on WFLD/32 Chicago. I think they actually aired one or two games before the station signed off for good.

According to the 8/31/1971 Noblesville Daily Ledger, WURD-40 put together a four-antenna array of 7-foot Channel Master parabolics (probably the CM-4251 or its predecessor) at 400 feet up on their tower for a direct pickup of WFLD. That's a 151-mile direct line from the Hancock Center to Noblesville. The story indicated it was steerable and there was hope to grab programs (Notre dame football?) from WNDU-16 in South Bend as well. Sox games were on the WURD schedule for the final month of the 1971 season. CM did have an assembly sheet for a four-antenna array, but no specs on gain.

More channel updates for CHSN:

Des Moines IA: KDMI/19.3
Cedar Rapids IA: KWKB/20.5 Iowa City
Ft. Wayne IN: WINM (incorrectly shown on the website as WINB)/12.2 Angola and 38.2 Ft. Wayne

All three stations are owned by Tri-State Christian Television.

Wonder if CHSN will be on anywhere in the Quad Cities

More additions:

Sioux City IA: KMEG/14.5
Several downstate Illinois communities: MTCO/562 and 563. MTCO is apparently an ISP with streaming TV service.

Still waiting on Milwaukee, Grand Rapids, Champaign/Urbana, Paducah, Peoria, and Quincy.

CHSN is on WWMT DT4 I heard they have blacked out Bulls & Blackhawk games even the replays what's the point of having CHSN in West Michigan when you can't air those games even on tape delay. It's a waste of a subchannel if you ask me in my opinion.

I'm surprised that they attempted to go into Michigan at all. I believe the entire state is considered Detroit as far as pro sports is concerned. They probably won't air any Sox games, either.

As of Monday June 9, CHSN will no longer be over the air in Chicago.
