Dreja was a co-founder of both versions of The Yardbirds (1963-68, and 1992-2012). He switched to bass in 1966 when Jimmy Page moved to guitar. He was also involved with the formation of Led Zeppelin, but he turned down Page's offer to be the bass player. He became a well-regarded photographer, taking the band's photograph on the back of their first album. He passed on after years of poor health following a 2012 stroke that led to his retirement.
