Chris Zito joins Karen Blake for new Oldies morning show

I can't believe no one has mentioned this. I'm not listening to WODS since the flip but they must be promoting this.

Former WXLO morning guy Chris Zito is joining Karen Blake for the new 'Zito and Karen Blake" morning show starting this Wednesday, 6am-9am.

This announcement comes from Zito himself on his myspace page and his myspace blog:

http://www.myspace.com/zitoandjen

That myspace page is the former 'Zito and Jen' myspace page.

I doubt I'll be listening since, as I mentioned, I haven't listened to WODS since the flip to all-Christmas. I hope it works out because Karen has done very well solo.

But the best news out of this announcement: looks like Lobel isn't coming back after all. ::)

Update: WODS has updated their jock page. Lobel is gone. Zito is not there yet.

By the way, have they officially dumped Tom Kent until after Christmas?? And, if so, who is working the 7-10 shift? In another thread, someone mentioned Norm Thibeault was on one night last week.

And can Lobel take this grind?
--------------------------------------------
That was written two months ago. I don't know if it was the physical problems or not, but it always seemed like it was a bit improbable. Maybe when Lobel's feeling better he can look at other possibilities?

I think Zito at WODS was a given considering that he worked for Jaybeau Jones at WXLO.Originally he was probably going to start in January but it was probably moved up when it seemed Lobel wasn't going to continue.

I heard Al Cole has moved from over-nights at WZLX to join that morning show as well.

I have nothing against Lobel but he just didn't click in AM Drive. I'm glad they figured it out sooner rather than later. Still would love have Dale somewhere on the station though...even weekends.

Dale was recently put on Saturday mornings 9 AM - 12 Noon.

I don't know if he's on during the Christmas format, I didn't check last weekend, but hopefully he will be back doing his usual Uncle Dale thing in that slot when it's over.

Patrick Callahan seems to be on now. He's back in his old spot on Oldies and, I have to say, he's great in this timeslot. He has a great knack for anecdotes and trivia as he does on the Top 20 Countdown. Good to hear him back.

Uncle Dale was on last Saturday morning playing the Christmas Tunes... however, his voice was a little weak - cold maybe?

The Northern New England board has a thread about possible changes up at WERZ including the morning show. Maybe Ralphie Marino will suddenly become available to join his former Star co-host as well. The more, the merrier. :D

I tuned in very briefly just before 8:30 and heard Zito and Karen talking to Fast Freddy. It was very funny. I was fearing a Boston version of "Zito and Jen" but it was far from that. But, then the Christmas music started again so I had to tune out. I'll try to check it out once in a while but I'll definitely check them out regularly after December 25th.

Anyone else listening? How was their first day overall??

I heard a little this morning (around 6:20 or so) Zito appeared to be in a better comfort zone that Bob Lobel did (the one or two times I heard him)

Zito made a comment that "the guy looked good doing the sports on TV, but where is he now?" They took a call from one of Karen's old producers (Romeo?) they seem to click and work well together.

Dale has his three-hour stint on Saturday mornings. He's much happier and more comfortable. Think Classic Dale about 30 years ago. He's funny and the master of making funny comments into the leads to songs. I hope he stays. He makes Saturday's worth tuning into. I had a Deja Vu moment driving along 95/128 and it was like the Big 68 all over again.

Zito sounds like he'll be a better fit than Lobel was. However, if June Knight is gone and no mention of Mike Finegan for 2 days, we might need a scorecard to keep up with all of the changes on Birmingham Parkway the lat 10 months.

June is gone???????????? I could swear she was there on Monday. I just noticed her bio is gone from the oldies jock page too. That really sucks. Who is doing the news now? Anyone??

June has been there a long time. I'm pretty sure (I could be wrong) she was there during the Paul Perry morning show days, she was there during Dale's entire run...it's been quite awhile.

Her myspace page used to be public. Now it's private. That probably says something too.

It's about 11:15pm and Patrick is on instead of Finegan. I can't believe they would dump him after all this. Maybe Zito just cost too much. Karen could have stayed solo. ???

-June has been there since 1999 or so, KISS 108 before that. The news is a WBZ newsroom feed. She was ill on Monday and probably after the Tuesday morning show, that was it. She was one of the four "Breakfast Club" with Dale, Jimmy D, Mauzy and her. All of her ads she does for various things are gone as well.

That's a good point, I hadn't thought of that. The entire former morning crew is pretty much gone, from mornings anyway. They really cleaned house on that although Mauzy's exit was due to Westwood/Metro. And she is still on the WODS website. Seems like they are keeping her around for the occasional weekend fillin which is good.
